ginshun's form
here you go guys. Below is the link to a video showcasing my form (or lack thereof, LOL!)
Just watching myself, I would say that I need to get my shoulders turned back more on my reach back, but other than that, who knows. You guys are the experts, let me have it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkQye3vDLHc

Ok....I'm no expert but this is what I am seeing right off the bat:
1) You are not getting your hips turned enough away from your target to rotate your shoulders and get your back towards the target; 2) You basically have no reachback because of #1; 3) You are not using your legs to drive yourself through the throw and get your weight transferred to your front leg and up over the disc; 4) Because you're not using your legs, shoulders and torso it seems like you might be strong arming the disc; 5) A lot of your throws looked like they were nose up so I would work on getting my wrist in the down position to make sure the discs are not stalling out.. What it looks like you are doing right: 1) You are in a good athletic position to start the throw; 2) You maintain that upright position throughout the throw; 3) You do bring the disc back on a good plane but if you incorporate the X-step or some other way to get your hips turned more that would make your shoulders turn more and get a bigger reachback.

Hmm. I am still new but from the back view at 2.50 that was a good throw. Snap that wrist.

Start out by working on being stronger on your right leg when you plant it. Remember it's(just like putting) a weight shift from back leg to front. Coming off your X-step you put yourself in position to load up on the throw. To do this, you need a firm base to explode around on. It's ok for your right knee to be slightly bent, but I believe most of the best player really "stick" that foot into the ground with their throwing shoulder still turned away from the target before beginning the pull through and allowing their momentum to whip the body through. Something about yours looks a little forced. Just do what everyone else will tell you. Start from the hit back. I would suggest you just work on doing one step with your right leg, planting it firmly, and working on whipping through just to get the feel for it. You shouldn't be falling forward on the throw, you should be on your right foot(I use the ball of mine, some use their heel to rotate on), twisting around to the right, holding the hyzer/flat/anhyzer line into your follow-through. Hope that helps.
Good luck. Last edited by slowRoll; 09-20-2011 at 03:29 PM. |

Cont:
The throw you did at 2:45 looked like your best one by a wide margin. You are blessed to be young and athletic (quit smoking ), all you need is good technique and lots of practice. Remember once you have the disc in your grip to keep your wrist down like you are reaching out to shake hands. Most of your throws looked "nose up". This small change may help you with that until you get a little better at pulling straight across your chest.

I am actually not that young anymore - 36 to be exact, and blessed with being athletic isn't exactly how I'd put it. I have to work relatively hard to stay in the shape I am in, more as I get older.
And I know, I know, I need to quit smoking. Easier said than done unfortunately. I am down to about a pack a week, but can't seam to kick it altogether. Don't ever start smoking guys, I with I never had. You are correct though, a lot of my thows were coming out nose up. I will try to incorporate your advise. And thanks for the advice guys, keep it coming.
