That being said, I just didn't feel like I had played the best 2 courses.

On the same trip, I played Shawshank and Spring Valley [both in the Houston area] and I thought they were both more fun [esp shawshank]. Since then I've played 2 other courses that I felt were more fun and just had more of a wow factor: Branson Treehouz in southern Missouri and the new South Highland Sports Complex in Mayfield Kentucky.

I just wonder if anyone else that's played Selah has felt it's somewhat over-rated [esp considering the price]. What courses would you rate higher?
I'm heading south to play Shawshank and Spring Valley tomorrow. I hope you're right about them. We're skipping Selah this year to play them.

I just booked the Corral House for my 19th annual Spring golf trip to Texas. Yee haw. Rates on the Corral House have gone up since Spring 2013: Daily rate is higher, no discount for days 3 and 4, and extra cart is 40 instead of 30.

Greens fees, not included below, are still $10/day with lodging booked.

Code:
Item	2014	2013
Day 1	214.50	192.50
Day 2	214.50	192.50
Day 3	214.50	100.00
Day 4	214.50	100.00
PreTax	858.00	585.00
TTL	111.54	76.05
Lodging	969.54	661.05
2ndCart	160.00	120.00
Grand	1129.54	781.05

Diff	348.49
Still worth it? I wouldn't be going if it weren't.

We booked it awhile ago for November. I did not do the booking, but my understanding was that there were few weekends left to choose from. Based on that kind of demand, I am not surprised they went up in price. Will be my first trip there, looking forward to it.

I played Shawshank, Spring Valley, Little Egypt, McDade, Stonebridge Church and Windwood Presbyterian on a three day disc golfing trip. The courses and the land itself are awesome in the area north of Houston. It was a great time and a lot of fun. McDade DGC was my favorite of the long weekend.

I do respect your opinion, but I find it difficult to put Spring Valley in the same class as Selah Ranch. There are too many reasons why. It was actually my least favorite of the six courses we played. I really don't get your comparison, but it's your opinion. To each their own.

Shawshank was a blast, but a little "tricked up" in my opinion. Being goofy fun (the jail hole for example) and being a true test of disc golfing skill can be two different things. Shawshank is both. Selah Ranch is all about true disc golf skill... in my opinion. Apples and oranges if you will...

I really missed going to Selah Ranch this year. I won't make it through 2014 without going. I can't wait!

That's my 2 cents.

For me it's the variety. McDade has open, semi wooded and heavily wooded holes. You get a little of everything.

Little Egypt is really great, but it's all heavily wooded, all the time.

Stonebridge Church rocks. I like it about as much as McDade. McDade's practice basket and parking gives it the edge.

I'm not a fan of golf balls flying my way... thus the distaste for Spring Valley. Nice pro shop though.

Shawshank is Shawshank. Very fun, but way too tricked up.

Winnwood Presbyterian is a lot of fun. Some of the old guys in my group had some trouble with the carry overs. I liked it a lot.

All of them, including Spring Valley are worth traveling out of your way for. North Houston is blessed with great courses.

Making something that's high quality, then maintianing it takes money. I really want to play these courses, and it's not that far from me, but I haven't yet because of the cost. That does not mean that I'm opposed to them charging, on the contrary, if it allows them to keep the course in great shape and continue to have the highest rated course on here, charge for it.

I'm from Tyler, too, and I've been to Selah multiple times (usually after every semester of school) and it's well worth the money. I haven't ever left there feeling like I didn't get more than my moneys worth.

I've played Shawshank, Spring Valley, Little Egypt, and Winwood, and I have to say that Selah is in a whole other class. But I can't blame folks for not making the trek out there for two courses. I've only been a few times myself, and I live less than 2 hours away. Once the two additional courses get started up at Trey Texas Ranch, I think it will definitely be more of a disc golf vacation destination type of thing.
