why is the "odd man out" at such a disadvantage?

I was playing our weekly dubs the other day and after flipping for partners I ended up being the odd man out and had to play alone. I parred the first hole and the other 3 teams all birbied. None of the other teams made the first putt but they all got a second chance and saved it. But I didn't so I was pissy. They let me pay to play as my own partner from then on cause nobody could counter my argument that I had actually taken 3 shots to everyone elses 4. How do you do it?

You get one mulligan per hole, you take the best out of the two (if playing best shot obv). You can pay double and get two shots on every shot, taking best one each time (if playing best shot). Sometimes these are referred to as Arizona and Cali.

I don't understand the question. Also, typically the odd man out, as you call it, gets 1 mulligan per hole. So if you have a bad drive, you can rethrow. Or if you miss an easy putt, you can reputt. But you can only redo one throw per hole or the odd man out would be overpowered a little.

Well, I feel for you, as I'm not one of the best league players. I usually have to depend on someone's longer drive to keep me competitive. If I pull "wild man", I almost immediately chalk my round up as practice.

But if one of our best players would get two throws for every lie, it'd be an almost immediate win. I just have to work on my game, and keep my chin up. Most importantly, you have to have fun whether you're winning or losing. Doubles leagues are for fun and socializing, not being super competitive.

If you want to win as Cali, get good at putting and ALWAYS take two putts. Unless your see your disc leaning against the pole, TAKE TWO PUTTS. If you are a decent putter it almost feels like cheating to be able to fire a second putt that counts. Think of how many times out of frustration, while playing singles you fling your driver at the bucket after missing a putt and it splashes in effortlessly.

If you just want to have fun as Cali and be more prone to losing, take 2 drives and try to Ace something.

Locally, if someone is Cali, they can pay again for a rethrow on each shot, which we call Valley Cali... I always pay the extra.

I like this concept.

- Pay normal price, you get one extra shot per hole total.
- pay for 2 entries, you get an extra shot from each lie, as if a 2nd player is there.

That's a cool risk reward opportunity there for sure.

This is what we do here as well. I'd rather play Cali than have a partner anyday.

If you dont pay extra you only get 1 extra shot per hole. If you pay extra you are basically a 2 man team with 2 drives/approaches/putts...whatever. If you dont pay the extra money and you cash you only get paid out once...if you pay extra you should get paid out twice. Most people I know would rather play Cali than with a partner.

If you don't take 1 extra shot per hole you are doing it wrong.
