I typically charge by color. However if there is a lot of extra work I may charge more for detail work. My typical price is $10 for a single color and $5 for each additional color. I max out at $30 for the dye work. My experience has been that most people will not pay more than $50 for a dyed disc. So $30 for the dye and $20 for a disc seems to be about the limit. If I am shipping the disc the customer pays for shipping as well.

I know I should probably spend some time searching this question, but while we're on the topic of commissioned work, what would you guys need in terms of a custom design? Any image that works as a stencil? (...and what types of elements in the design are impossible, a pain in the neck, or desirable?) In what (electronic?) format? I've got a million questions, but let's start there, THANK YOU!
btw, I love this thread: you all are artists, and deserve more than what you can typically charge.

The important variables matter... handcut v plotter, mac v windows. I find that any image that looks good in 2-4 colors will make a good stencil, and I prefer scalable vector graphic (.svg) format 'cuz inkscape likes it.

Awesome way of breaking it down. That is a good baseline to sell disc. I can't wait until I can achieve some better dye's myself.

That one makes me want to do some marbling tonight. Too bad I don't have any white discs.
