That makes sense & is a great tip - but I guess I'm not connecting the dots on the whole thing...

Using the stormtrooper dye as an example - would you not have any "overlap" of vinyl and just "fingertip" the disc down into the dip? Then weight down w/the shot glass just enough to keep the dye from seaping into the bottom?

no the edges wouldn't normally be submersed into the dye so you add some weight to it to make it sink lower into the dip...

I like the shot glass idea
I used to use a glass leaf, it was nice and flat and easy to use to "turn" the disc while in the dye.
Now I use a large block of spare lumber

Here's the same disc from the side view:


Adds that extra bit to the "storm trooper" black and white contrast.
