What is the purpose of overstable discs?

Are they only really useful in the wind? I'm finding my Buzzz's much more controllable than my Zone (though I can't throw many different kinds of shots).

So why, if I can control my Buzzz's (Rivers, TB, etc...) would I need any OS discs (other than wind)?

They are good for getting out of trouble shots, FH Rollers, Thumbers, T-hawks, big spike hyzers, flex shots... all kinds of shots that understable disc's will not do as well.

The harder your throw, the less stable a disc is. Some people who throw big shots need an OS disc to achieve stable shots. Also, OS discs are more predictable when throwing on a hyzer. They will always come back and that lets you crank them high and outside for some huge hyzer bombs.

When you need to really have a disc that hooks really well or low line skip shots. The buzz is my favorite disc in my bag but it doesn't hook hard enough even when I try to make it hook hard.

Basically it's much easier to get os plastic for this shot than other stabilities.

For me I find that stable discs are nice when you have clear alleys to hit. If you can work them the way you want to cover all the shots you need then more power to you.

There is just some times when I want to let the disc do the work. If I need a hook one out of the bushes/ around a cluster of trees then I find that a drone works much better for me than trying hyzer a stable disc, or if I need it to skip I'll throw my Champ Firebird. Also the course I play on has low ceilings which make it hard to throw a hyzer with a stable disc because I usually have to keep them lower than 12 feet. You could throw an overstable disc flat in that situation and let it naturally fade.

I do find that a firebird into the wind (20+) will end up closer to where I want it to go then if I throw something stable like a buzzz or a river.

Also, forehand shots tend to work better with an OS disc. Depends on your form, and my FH is crap, but I've gotten good results with a rogue throwing that way.

Ever play in more than a 15mph breeze? Throw the Buzzz or River into a strong headwind & you better aim about 1/4 mile left

I like throwing my predators on spike hyzers for distance control and predictable landings. Hole number one west course Jones park has a ton of lines you can throw but the only one that works time after time is the big spike hyzer crashing through the trees by the basket. It's a good shot to have.

That's the 1st I've heard about Firebird's not being stable
