Among other things, I enjoyed a 3-day event at USDGC where everyone played 1 round a day, with teetimes. You could hang around and watch people play before you and after you, and pretty much everyone could be part of the gallery for the Open division's final holes, if they wished. No awards ceremony; they calculated payouts as divisions finished and you could collect at that time.

That's a formula for a strenuous course.

No fivesomes! THAT is my favorite tournament format!

3 and 4 man teams are my favorite.

But If I'm traveling 1 day 2 rounds is best since I work 5 days a week. If it's close by than 2 rounds 2 days is fine.

Day 1: 2 rounds of 18 (1 round at each course)
Day 2: 1 round of 18 (this way anyone traveling has plenty of time to get where they need to after awards. Sometimes 2 rounds or even a final 9 pushes awards to late in the day IMO)

no multiple days for B&C tiers, 2 rounds of 18 on a single day.

For A tiers that only play the minimum 54 holes I like 1 round of 27 per day if possible (i have only seen that once and it was a great format since the ams and pros alternated between morning and afternoon for the rounds it was possible to follow the pros if desired). If a 27 hole layout is not possible then go with 2 18's on the first day and 1 18 on the second

no card with more than 4 and start on time, particularly on multi round days...

Personally, for a B-tier I've always liked the traditional 2 days/4 rounds shotgun format with two courses that you play twice, perhaps with different pin configurations or tees used. Just start the Sunday rounds an hour early and have no fivesomes to save time.

Of course, if you have three courses and you're expecting a big crowd, the 2 day/3 round, one at each course format works well too.
