That's just an idea. I don't like 500.
This would not work because I turn 40 this year and am now registered for MM1. I would never have been able to play in any Masters divisions last year by definition so I NEVER would have had a chance to qualify for Worlds.

Lots of baggers in NC. I'm sure some of them would still be playing MA2 if they could. You know, so they can learn how to win. Even if they are winning in a division where they are rated 30 or more points higher than the rest of the field.

To address the issue with MA2 fields being larger than MA1 fields . . . you know what they say," Its lonely at the top." The more skilled you become the less company you find yourself in. There are tons of people who get into the sport and begin playing in the MA3 and MA2 divisions but far fewer that stick with it long enough to compete in MA1, even fewer that stick with it long enough to play Open.

I'll be honest, when I was forced by rating to move up from MA2 to MA1 I was disappointed. There is a fairly large gap in field size in my area between these two divisions. There is just something about playing in a field of 30 people that has more energy and thrill to it than playing against 8. So in order to obtain that same experience I not only pay more for my tourney registration but I have to travel to larger tournaments with bigger MA1 fields. I'm really not complaining. I am where I belong and am challenged in regards to skill and I also enjoy travel and big tournaments, its just the current reality I'm faced with in our sport.

Well, my idea could be modified. Could be something like this:
To play MA1, player must have accumulated 500 points and played in at least one MA1 event -OR - player must have accumulated 1000 total amateur points.

To play MM1, player must have accumulated 250 points and played in at least one MM1 or less protected Advanced divisions (in this case MA1 is only option) -OR- player must have accumulated 500 total amateur points.

These are just the thoughts of a madman.

As the currently second lowest ranked (as far as I can tell) registered MA1 player, I just want to say that I am looking forward to coming to Charlotte and give it my best pedestrian try.

And may I say, bombmk, we look forward to having you here, where you will be treated as well as a 1050-rated player.

Regardless of where you finish you will have an awesome time. I played last year as a rec rated player and still had fun. Charlotte will be even better!!!

Just like the other 990+ rated players that won't move up even after years of being that way
