HIO Insurance

I'm not getting any views in the Tourney Section so I'm reposting here.

Anyone have any luck getting HIO payout insurance for a tourney? I was looking for $20K last year and no insurance company would write a policy for disc golf like they do for ball golf. They said there is no data to go on and they weren't willing to take the risk.

Let me know your experience, and if you have been able to get a policy, which company did you get it from.

Yeah, disc golf aces come by much more often than golf aces, not going to happen.

At the players party for Texas States last year there was a 10k hole in one contest. The guy found an insurance company to back it but there were quite a few stipulations. It was at the Gulf Greyhound Park track. Every throw was video taped and the guy running it said that if someone hit it and went over the line (foot fault) it didn't get paid. The shot was about 320' or so over a pond. He also said that it had to be a clean ace, no skips or bounces. It was pretty fun to watch people throwing on the big screen in between races, but no one hit it.

I don't see this working in a tournament as an ace pot because it wouldn't be recorded and people would be much more likely to cheat with 20k on the line compaired to a couple hundred.

If you want, I can try to get some more info about the insurance company that participated.

We have a $700 ace pot that a local company and the club have sponsored. We are trying to build it each year, but it would be sweet to have a car or big cash on the line.

What ways could a person cheat to get the ace? So that we could address these issues during the tourney.

Any info on the insurance company would be cool.

You would only have to get the 3 other people on your card to say it happened, and 5k apiece would be pretty hard to say no to.

And the tournament itself probably wouldn't be that competitive, everyone would be running at that cash.

I'll try to get in touch with the guy who put it on after work and get back to you.

the only company that will touch this would probably be Lloyds of London. talk to an insurance broker. best bet would be to have a separate contest. would prob eliminate cheating.

Here's a video along the lines of this.

Something went wrong. Please make sure you added the video correctly. Click here to see how YouTube videos should be embedded. There could also be a technical issue that's not your fault. Click here to view the video on YouTube's site. If this link doesn't work, you did something wrong.

I've played in a couple events with these, and that is fine print about them that the event organizers seldom tell the players. That any pissy technicality disqualifies them from getting the money, and any deflection of their shot before it hits the basket also disqualifies them. To me, if you can't get a policy that pays off under the same criteria that we would use for a standard ace pot, then its a waste of money.
