Two things that caught my attention, hope Eagle/New/dude on the bike could elaborate on that..
1.. If I feel a burn on my index finger i'm not holding a power grip, but if it's the "ripping" out of the hand wouldnt that cause the burn? 2.. The 'rip' part, since i'm reading that it should rip regardless how hard a person hold it and they have to accelerate as quickly as they could. But wouldnt that cause more "late release"? i tried some fast accelerations and the disc does rip out of my grip but like 60 degree away from the basket, and the disc looked floopy flying awkwardly.. I'm experimenting everything as i read the post. |

Often when you have that late release or "gridlock" it has nothing to do with grip, it means you're likely not pulling in a straight line. If your disc follows a straight path all the way from your reach back through your pull, then when it rips out of your hand there's only one direction it can go. If you're pulling in an arc around your body the disc has to come out at exactly the right time for it to go where you're aiming.

You mean griplock.

As mashnut was saying griplock is often caused by you trying to strong arm the disc and you don't come straight through with a fluid accelerating motion. If you're doing that you are way to tense in your pull. However, some people may have noticed that when they do release late and it seems like a griplock situation the disc goes really far but in the wrong direction. That would indicate you are not getting full extension and would probably be a sign that you aren't closing off your hips enough before the pull so when you do open your hips you don't have enough potential energy stored up for the pull; and possibly letting the disc go to early. The other thing I think that is always overlooked is knowing your disc and how to get the most of it with the wind conditions. I can one step pull something OS on an anny line and get 350' out of it just because it's so easy to flex it out. As long as you are putting enough snap in to it to keep it on the anny line long enough.

It pretty much all comes down to timing.
