Which tees to play?

Hey guys... I have only been playing for about a week, but I have played 6 times now... I have experimented from the AM and regular tees at Bowers Park in Tuscaloosa, AL and was just wondering what your opinions were on which tees to play... The best I have shot from the regulars is 8+, but my average is probably around 12-14+. The best I have shot from the AMs is -1, which I feel like I could do pretty consistently.

I want to get better, so are the regular tees the way to go? Just feels kind of wierd shooting that far over par.

Any thoughts will help!

Thanks!

Drake

Just mix it up. I have played that course and there is a wide variety of shots that you need regardless of the pads you play from. Just alternate playing different ones different days to keep things fresh and to challenge yourself.
I would recommend playing other courses too but unfortunately there don't seem to be any other quality courses in that area.

If you want to get better field work is the way to go.

If you want to have fun, play the tees that you think offer the more exciting shot

It sort of depends. Hopefully this make sense. With the long tees if you see a lot of holes where it's really easy to get one score (good or bad drive, easy approach but unreachable for a putt, putt) but almost impossible to do better then you might not have the skills to make that hole very interesting. If it's on the challenging side to get one score (good drive, putt) but a mistake gets you a different score (bad drive, pitch back onto the fairway, approach, putt) then that tee pad might be a better choice.

In other words, if your scores are similar when you're playing well and when you're playing poorly, you might be playing from the "wrong" tee pads. If you don't care about that, play from whichever ones are most fun.

I think playing actual courses is just as, if not more, important than fieldwork.

Thanks for the feedback... Sounds like the regular tees are probably where I should be most of the time...

As far as field work is concerned, I don't really have enough discs to make it worthwhile. :/

Sometimes it's fun to play from the shorter tees to change it up or build confidence. Shooting -1 from the short tees feels a lot better than +12 from the longer tees. And playing from either tee is going to help your game. Regardless of where you play from you're aiming at the basket and trying to get there in as few strokes as possible.

If you want to get better, work your way up to the hardest tee with a ladder system.

Break par on the AM tees (check!)
Break par on the next longest or most difficult tee
Break par on the next longest or most difficult tee... and so on.

Personally, I would just mix it up for some fun. It's the throwing that in itself makes you better (or hopefully, at least)!

Speedly, that s what I was thinking! I was thinking once I shoot under par from the AM tees twice, I can move along! I feel like I have improved a lot in the last week, so hopefully it continues!

My home course has two sets of teepads, whites and blues. Once I was able to consistently shoot par or under from the white tees that's when I started to play the blues. Another way to ease into it and change things up is to alternate teepads every other hole.
