Mindset from 45 ft
Just curious as to how most people approach these shots. I know differnt skill levels do different things here. I feel like I may be being way to passive with stuf from like...45-80 ft. I never give myself a chance to make it and I'm always leaving it short with a fairly manageable putt. I know in ball golf, when I'm putting really long, seemingly unmakealbe type putts...my goal is alwasy to be long and withing 3ft of the hole...giving the hole a chance but at the same time leaving a good leave...it doesnt seem like I have the ability to do this ever because even thinking this way im end up short.
just wondering if anyone had problems like this and what mentally you've done to fix it

I say screw it and go for it ...
On long putts, though, I use a lot of anhyzer with an overstable disc that'll flatten out and die around the basket, so I'm not worried about a long come-back putt. I watch a lot of people run straight at the basket, or use some hyzer, and if they miss they have a long 2 putt. It also depends on the day. If I'm nailing all my 20' putts, there's no reason for me to not just get real greedy, not worrying about 3 putting. |

I guess what I'm saying is, you have to throw a shot that you're not worried about missing. You always do what you fear you'll do.

At 45' I'm thinking nothing but chains
I'm not at a point in my ability where I'm consistent at that range, but I still feel like I'm going to make it. I putt it like its going in and if it misses the worst I'm looking at is a 15' comeback. |

I usually go for a shot that has almost no chance to go in because I'm scared of the blow by, but no real chance to stop within 15' because I putt too fast. I three putt a lot...

Unless there's serious roll away potential or ridiculous wind, 45' is "go for it and make sure you're parked if you miss" range.

The higher your confidence inside the circle, the more long range putts you go for and have the potential to make. When you're scared of the 20 foot putt, it makes putting from anywhere difficult.

It depends on the conditions (wind, terrain, how conservative/aggressive I feel I need to be at that particular time, etc.), but from 45' I'm generally running the chains with a step-through putt.
80-footers are a low percentage shot, so I'm usually just looking to put them close enough for a drop-in. |
