But only darker colors will show up. And it could just turn out a grey mess.

Might try removing the old dye with acetone first.

Only way acetone will take the dye off is if you put it on there as soon as you take the disc out of the dye. You might have 30 seconds if you're lucky

i dyed green over black on an elite x disc and you would never have known it was black (much to my surprise and chagrin). however, it was originally dyed black almost a year previously.
