Vertical Gaps on the Fairway

I wanted to get everyones thoughts on vertical gaps in fairways. If/When should they be used. In most gap type fairways you come upon you're way more worried about getting through the gap horizontally then you are vertically. Most of the time when you are worried about the height of your disc it's just getting under something.

I've seen a few places where a vertical gap is more of a challenge than the horizontal aspect of it and personally I think it's something that should be used more in design. I'm all for more holes that require a drive to stay under 15' the entire way; or a drive that has to hyzer up in to a vertical gap 30' off the ground and 20' tall.

This is especially a tool that could be used in more open courses by putting tees under the limbs of trees or right behind them so even though most of the hole is open you are requiring the player to make a long shot while also keeping the shot very low.

Thoughts?

Do you have an example so I can visualize this better?

Here's an example of a low branch in front of a tee. Hole 7 at Sugaw. Requires you to throw a 300ft low RHBH turnover or RHFH hyzer.. This picture doesn't really do it justice. It really makes you cringe when you're on the tee if you're seeing it for the first time.

Here's another one, hole 12 at Rogers Lakewood Park.

I can only think of the low gap of the top of my head.

This one is somewhat forced as it is a triple mandatory under the lowest hanging tree branch. It really complicates the shot.

Most common route is straight ahead under the branch. Alternate route 1 is through the right gap. Alternate route 2 is the hi-lo gap on the left.
