The Crucible

Although a temp. usually only set up 2x a year this course outside of Athens, GA is in my opinion one of the Top 10 courses in the US.

Anybody on here had the pleasure of taking on The Crucible?
I went back and played it 3 yrs. ago for the Flying Eye Open and didn't have a 2 all weekend over the span of 3 rounds...

Not a top 10 course but at least a 4.0. Without concrete tees, pro shop, benches and course traffic that knocks down the schule in places, it's hard to give it a higher score. But it has the potential for 4.5-5 if those things could ever be done.

Yeah my 80+ courses played pales in comparison to what your eyes have seen, but it would be nice to at least see it up on this site as a course in GA.

When did you get a chance to play it?

I played it once in an event around 2005-2006 and toured it once with designer Porter when it wasn't in the ground. It's one of the best temp courses I've played.

No, it's only open for play a couple of times a year, during and just before tournaments there. And as far as I know, there's only one more event scheduled there this year, the Flying Eye Open October 23rd & 24th.

I got to play it last fall in a doubles round to familiarize myself with it before helping with spotting and tournament administration before last year's Flying Eye Am weekend, and it's everything it's made out to be.

I was on the Athens forum this morning and I didn't see it confirmed?
Do you know for sure these are the days?
I am planning on flying out again from CO and want to start making plans.

I looked on the Athens site and heard that if it does happen it will be at Sandy Creek and not the Crucible. It seems, unfortunately, that the bridges may have been burnt for a final time. I know Keith was saying it was a nightmare getting the GSSS round there...wish I would've played now...may never get the chance.

What a shame if that's true...Sandy Point doesn't hold a candle to Crucible in challenge factor....It would be great to get more details on what is going on.
