Visiting Bedford, PA - Paw Paw Courses?

I'm visiting my grandmother tomorrow and Sunday and I see the two courses at Paw Paw (Whippin' Post and Woodshed) are close by (about 32 miles). Are they worth a visit? Are they playable by my wife and daughter? Worth the trip? $5 apiece on the honor system - just show up? Or call ahead or something?

What's the deal? This will be the first little road trip I'll ever really take to play disc golf. Input is greatly appreciated.

Paw Paw is often referred to as a Mid-Atlantic Disc Golf Mecca- and I agree. The property is simply beautiful, the courses are challenging and frustrating and leave you wanting more. Spencer and Gabby are the most gracious hosts you could ever hope to run into.

All that said- I'm not sure I'd take the family, unless they are at least semi-serious golfers as well. If they are not, and you convince them to play, I expect they will leave very frustrated and discouraged. The woods are tight and the fairways are long. Extracurricular activities are null, as the courses (and Paw Paw, WV in general) are out in the middle of BFE. There is literally nothing out there except for woods and dirt roads.

If you do decide to go, I would call/email Spencer first just out of courtesy, even though I know people do just show up and pay the $5. You will also need to get directions to the course, as google maps, etc will leave you lost in the wilderness.

If you're really jonesing to throw a few discs and want to take the family, Shawnee State Park has a course that is much easier and faster to navigate and is much more likely to be tolerated by the non-golfers.

If you can manage to escape solo for the day then I say Paw Paw all the way.

i could be wrong but i believe it is just $5 per day not per course. its worth the money so maybe you would want to donate the extra 5.

also, its a tough course so if your wife and daughter arent dgers they may not have a good time.

We've decided (i.e. she has) to scrap the plans to visit Paw Paw and we may hit up Deer Lakes on our way back.

I was supposed to play Moraine with some guys but that was nixed (not by me or them, if you get the hint ) as well. :P
