This Sunday! Northern Michigan: Traverse, Petoskey, Grayling, or?
I have to pick one. On Sunday I'll be driving downstate on I-75 from Cheboygan and my wife is cool with fitting in a round. I have to weigh the pros/cons of taking a detour to Petoskey or Hickory Hills, or just play Hanson Hills... Is Hanson Hills the best option since it's right off 75? Or is Hickory Hills really worth a two hour detour? Or is Petoskey better than Hickory Hills with only a 40min detour even though it doesn't have as good of a course as Hickory?
I'm a newer player and my wife just started last week. We can have fun anywhere but I'd like to get your opinions on the options...

Hickory is the better course but Hanson Hills is solid. Also convenient that it has 2 courses on site.

Anyone play all three? Is Alpena okay?

all are worth playing but hickory is the best and worth the drive. ill add that traverse city is effing awesome and you can treat the wife to a nice dinner or lunch at one of the stellar dining establishments in town. carlys playground(mt holiday) in traverse is also awesome but its a serious workout. if time is an issue then grayling is the best option. the course in alpena is cool but not worth driving out of the way for. if you do ever play the alpena courses then pm todd wiley, he is a cool local guy there that will meet you for a round and be a good guide.

I would vouch for Carly's playground... better than hickory... and a true experience in every sense of the word. of the 30+new courses this year, carly's has been the best by leaps and bounds.

Carly's also offers the pink tee, pink basket layout which is reasonably beginner friendly if the wife wants to play as well.

My wife definitely plays. She's also pretty good. I'll let you guys know what we end up doing. It always seems like time is the biggest limiting factor...

We played Hanson Hills Long Course. Wow, just awesome. That place is magical. Seriously... transported to a different place and time....

Compared to what is on the west side of the state, Alpena is just okay. Right now is the best disc golf experience here, both courses are in good shape except for the missing basket #14 at Lumberjack Meadows (STOLEN!
