A few more USDGC bits

Found this blue USDGC decal in my ROC sticker kit:

Which matched the logo on the back of my '09 USDGC shirt:

Got this sticker from Jay when I told him my nickname was 'Yeddie':

This is my feeling about it all.

I personally don't like the idea of mixing the players. The guys in the open flight are playing for a major title, those of us in performance are simply just there for the experience.

I plan to play extremely serious and treat it like I'm playing for 15K, I'm rated 949 and I played open for 5 years so it's not like I'm terrible, I know what to say and what not to say to people I'm playing with and I won't bother the two in the open flight on my group.

But there are some people playing in the event that have only played intermediate in their career - and that could cause some issues from people in the open flight.

Should be interesting what comes out of it.

I like the idea that us performance guys are garunteed an afternoon round - which will be really cool.

i wouldn't think anyone in the notusdgc would be unhappy about it. i doubt the usdgc competitors are thrilled.

Mixing in R1 is not that big of a deal. It's been done every year. That meant sub-900 players were on some cards in R1 every year (remember Blackjack Rothstein) because not everyone qualified to get in ...ever. With TD and sponsor exemptions, you had mid to lower level players every year including me. I played with World Class players Seppo Paju and Phil Arthur last year and Jesper Lundmark in R1 when I played in the early 2000s with a sponsor exemption. Most of the Performance flight players qualified because they played better than their current rating sometime in 2012.

reduction of the field to 72 players has made this the most difficult event ever to qualify for... it will also likely be the most difficult major event ever to cash in. those who qualified for it should get to play with their competitors rather than mixing in players from a completely different tournament. when the rothsteins and kennedys of the world were playing in usdgc they were at least in name competing with the climos and feldbergs- this is completely different.

And it's not unreasonable that playing in a mixed group in R1 is just one of the unique challenges presented by the USDGC along the lines of getting your name announced on hole 1 each day which seems to add maybe 0.2-0.3 to the scoring average on that hole.
