Were any of those in the reconfigured year when 888 played straight, instead of across the lot? I see clues that the police training was in 2003 or so, but it seems like 888 played straight more recent than that. Or maybe just time flies.

I also have Eric Roadhouse in Round 1 of 2004.

The scoring averages on the hole were all at least 5.5 in the years I looked for 3s so I'm thinking the straight version was not between 2004-2007.

A 3 was still really tough in the straight position, as I recall, so the scoring ave may still have been quite high. But you're probably right nonetheless.

I found caddybooks for 08 and 09, and they weren't straight.

Found these quotes from Oct 2003 on pdga.com:
"
So is 888 still 888ft? I know it will be for the weekend, but due to a police training the hole was redesigned. Does anyone know if its still 888?

Greg Williams told me he had a simple putt for 3 on it today.
"

"
No, hole 888 is much easier I circle 4ed it. It will be back to normal on Sat, the Rock Hill police are training in the parking lot

The straight version was used 2004-2005.

I played in 2003 when the police training exercises forced relocation of the hole to the Coliseum side of the parking lot, and it was because of that issue that they changed 888 to the straight version for a couple years. When I went back in 2005, it was the straight version, but the last time I played, in 2006, it had been returned to the original island location.

Yeah, I thought I remembered 888 being totally over by the Coliseum. I guess that was the first 2 days of 2003.

So it was probably:
2003 - Total relocate days 1 and 2, unknown on days 3 and 4.
2004 - Straight
2005 - Straight
2006 - Normal

2003 days 3 and 4 it was in its normal configuration. At the time, the tournament was on a Thursday through Sunday schedule, so the police training ended with the end of the work work and freed up the parking lot for Saturday and Sunday's rounds.

Well there you have it -- thanks Josh! Your name is totally familiar -- probably from the old pdga board or something. Thanks for the history.

Yep, that's what the scores say. So did he throw one in from across the lot? Or did he make it to the green in 2?
