Or we could all contact Jeffrey Nash at the number provided on their page with support for the disc golf course.

Thanks to everyone on DGCR who are supporting us through this!! Didn't know there was a Timber Creek disc golf page, that is a good thing for sure. If you can, please like the Timber Creek disc golf page and leave a message there also!! That page already has almost twice as many likes as the other page, let's keep it going!

From the FB page that they started

Quote:
On October 9, Chris and Joanne were fortunate to run into Freeholder Jeffrey Nash walking his dog, Norman at the Timber Creek Park pond. The freeholder was about to start a tour of the entire route of the proposed disc golf course and he graciously allowed us to accompany the group, which included Camden County employees and the contracted course designer. While walking to the meeting location,
Mr. Nash mentioned he had received 1,000 emails and that he was suspending work on the course. Now we're sure some of those emails were from the pro disc golf folks (most of whom don't live in the county), but your efforts have paid off enough to give pause and prompt a first-hand review of the project by its key determining official.

The tour proved to be an alarming eye-opener, as heretofore we had no idea just how extensively the proposed course would cut through the entire park. As opponents of the project joining the contractor's tour, we were given just brief opportunities to share some observations regarding erosion, wetlands, cut trees, and especially-sensitive areas. The contractor remained somewhat surly throughout and refused to answer a single question posed by Chris or Joanne. Respecting the freeholder's wishes we took no pictures of the group except Mr. Nash himself.

To say the uncut course route was in flux would be an understatement. At times it seemed like it was being laid out right before our eyes. The route through the hillside above the pond, where on Monday, October 8 we reported finding numerous sapling American Chestnuts near the red flags, was removed completely from the tour. (I guess our facebook page is being read.) At one point the contractor took the group down a short trail we know to be surrounded by dozens of Pink Lady Slipper orchids. As Joanne and Chris started to hyperventilate, the contractor did a literal about face and said "oh, based upon input from our environmental specialist, we decided this area was too sensitive to build in." This after being told all along that this was just "a county park" with little to be concerned about. It was surreal.

A the conclusion of the tour, Mr. Nash reiterated that the project was been suspended, in part, waiting for a review by the County's naturalist. Additionally, he promised that he would get back to every person who wrote or called him.

Our sense is that the scale of this project was never made clear to him. Let us hope that he decides to pull the plug on this disastrous plan. Then we can all go back to quietly enjoying the outstanding natural beauty and significance of this park. Stay tuned.

and this is from the FB page in support of the course

Today we participated in a full course walk-through with the NJ Freeholder in the Timber Creek district. I would characterize this walk-through as a positive exercise, though the "de facto owner" of the park was able to insert himself into the tour. It is our understanding that support for the course (via emails and phone calls) has significantly outnumbered opposition. The next milestone is to
have the county naturalist tour the course, so that, once and for all, we could demonstrate the minimal impact that this installation will have on the property. Again, we thank all of you for your support...including a growing number of dog walkers who are on the side of this new and exciting form of recreation for the park. NOTE: all construction or programming for the Timber Creek course is on hold until further notice. But we are still moving forward.

Sounds to me like this course is a goner. It is election season and I imagine the freeholder likes his job so it would be safe to say this course will not see the light of day and be a what could of been story. Sad really because it sounded like a great course and one that would be a destination for many

Myself personally would get a video camera and be at the park everyday and when their dog pisses on a rare tree, plant/flower I would post it all over facebook and the internet. I imagine just getting the dog off lease trouncing threw the brush and crushing their precious orchids, which have never even been proven to exist here, would suffice. Oh wait a minute i forgot their dogs probably are ecological saviors as they are and would never do that.

I am just glad i live in the Greater cincinnati area where disc golf flourishes and with 31 courses installed right now you never run out of a place to play. Plus columbus, dayton, lexington and louisville are not far away so that adds a bunch more courses to play. A new course was just installed in goshen and i hear it is nice. I hope to go play it soon. All you people from jersey bring your baskets here and i am sure someone will make use of them.
