Blair Mill Park, Stallings N.C.

I began to remove a lot of trash and small trees and brush Sunday in Blair Mill Park. I wish I had not promised Stallings that I would deliver them this short beginner course a couple of years ago, but I did. My body hates me this morning, especially my right hand where the yellow jacket told me that he didn't like me invading his personal space. Anyhow, the park is split in half by a creek and a large tract of unusable flood plain. Each side of the park will have 9 baskets and a bridge is planned at some point to join each side.

This will not be a destination course and a few of the holes will be in conflict with the undersized soccer fields that are rarely used, so at time you will not be able to play the entire 18. I have never seen the fields used, but I imagine that they are used occassionally.

So for you folks on the east side of Charlotte/Matthews, if you are looking for a beginner course to hone your skills I expect that we will have this opened by some time in February. It is only 4-5 miles away from the Scrapyard at Idlewild.

Volunteers will be welcomed.

Man, you must just drive around the Charlotte area and throw courses in any open patch of grass or woods you find. Must be nice.

Hmmm. probably not. I am trying to make Sunday the next day I will have to spend some time out there. My wife will be out of the country for a week and I have to make sure that I have someone to care for baby James for me.

Charlotte is the only city I've found that has enough disc golf courses so that another new 18-hole course would not be certain to be filled up with players. So, whenever you want to say you're done, you can know you've finished the job.

Give Stan a break; I'm older than this old f*rt. Today, I sharpened my battery-operated chain saw (as little as it is, it does wonders on 2-5 inch trees). Can't wait to again put it to work this Sunday. I do better in helping develop courses than scoring on them!

Stan thinks I'm a horrible disc golfer (probably true), but this is based on our experiences in installing new baskets/courses and then playing them. As we toasted each basket and then played an inaugural round, it was no wonder that I played like sh*t after 18 Icehouses.

Will be still busting my butt to install new courses.
