NorCal day trip advice
Hey all,
I'm heading up to visit the folks at the holidays, and my dad and I will be taking a Wednesday to hit up a couple courses. I need some help deciding which route we should take. We will be in Rohnert Park, so I am thinking these are my two options: 1) Head south and play Golden Gate Park, then Stafford on the way home. 2) Head north and try and hit any of the following: Highland Springs, Low Gap, Mendocino South, Anderson Valley Brewing Co. I am leaning Golden Gate/Stafford, but I worry about traffic getting to SF on a Wednesday taking away a lot of DG time. I also don't know much about the Ukiah/Lakeport courses, other than that they look good and receive good reviews, too. Anyway, any NorCal folks who can chime in and help out would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are worried about traffic, try hitting Napa and Stafford instead.

So will I regret skipping GGP? It looks so good, and I don't make it up there that often.
I do like the Napa suggestion, too. Keep the thoughts coming, and thanks!

I'd go gg and novato. Gg looks so AMAZING now. The 101 is 5 minutes from the course and traffic heading north shouldn't be that bad in the morning/afternoon.

I am more worried about losing time waiting for the morning commute south to stop. I will have to get up that morning with my daughter, though, so it isn't like we can leave at the crack of dawn anyway...
There is also a chance I could go the north route one day and then hit Stafford by itself another morning by itself. But I am being enticed by GGP and need people to tell me something is more awesome.

Depends on what you like. GGP is one of the great park courses. Stafford and Napa are more wilderness style. I wouldn't play Napa or Stafford without a spotter though.

I play GGP all the time and I'm coming from Sonoma. If you leave around 0530ish you'll be ahead of traffic or if you leave around 0930, you should be behind the traffic. Also, once you get past Corta Madera. Traffic starts moving fine. It's that 37 and 580 area that turns into a parking lot. I would also bet traffic will be lite due to everyone taking the day off before Thanksgiving.
My vote is for GGP and Stafford for sure! Napa is nice, but GGP is fantastic! Although I haven't played it in a few years. The rumor mill has said the Napa has gone a bit downhill. Can't say if that is true or not? Napa is a very challenging course for sure. You will need every throw or it will be a long day. There is also the infamous "Napa Rollers" Quite a few baskets are on some steep slopes. Many a time I've hit the basket or had a spit out and watched my disc roll 200+ feet down the hill Arrrrrgh! |
