New to Disc Golf and DGCR

Howdy. Didn't see an intro section so I will put mine here. I've been browsing (lurking) your forum and gotten to page 300 of the Newb thread so I figured I'd register and say "hi". I'm an old fart and just started playing disc golf this Thanksgiving. Dad always told me to save some things for later in life. I guess I did! Anyway I've played three courses in my area so far, two 18s and a 9er (all solo) and I'm loving this sport. I have a large greenbelt behind my house where I can practice. I'm getting together with some coworkers tomorrow to play at Harry Myers in Rockwall, TX so it should be fun.

I grew up throwing frisbee in the 70s and rarely could you catch me without one within reach (even played on the side of the freeway during a traffic jam once), but as you all know disc golf is a whole new world. I throw only RHBH and so far am throwing an Omega Super Soft 171g for putts, a Challenger 165g for upshots and a Z Buzzz 179g for mids (may be a little too heavy for me to throw well, but the jury is still out). I have a JLS 162g, but can only get it up to speed if throwing into the wind. I'm getting about 180 to 200 with the putters, 220 or so with the Buzz and around 240 with the JLS (wind only).

Anyway, thank you all who have contributed to my knowledge so far. I have a few questions, but nothing huge. I'll finish the newb thread before I ask, in case it has already been answered. Any input is welcome and appreciated. I'm going to have fun tomorrow, wish me luck!

Curtis

P.S. The Valk in my sig is because I ride a Valk (Honda) not throw one!

You'll be welcomed with open arms, you'll get comfortable, you'll become addicted, things will get hostile, you'll want to shoot things, then you'll go play disc golf again.

Thanks all, for the warm welcome. I'll be around although I'm not a prolific poster.

Thank you, but what little knowledge I have I owe to the members here and the links they so generously provided.

That's my other hobby. :-)

Nope, took care of that. I've been divorced for 15 years now. I do what I want, and amazingly haven't gone broke yet! LOL
