basket pyramids

Got a boring shot? Here's what you can do to make your hole less boring: build a basket pyramid (or something approximating one)!

Hole 11 at Golden Gate Park is not boring. But the old stump fell apart and the locals built a pyramid to replicate it. In fact, the new structure makes the putt much more difficult and butt clenching. It is very fun.

Hole 11 GGP

So I have designed a course called Lake Sonoma, and the worst shot by far is hole 5. It would be a great shot if not for a fence that marks the boundary between the park and lands used by the local native americans for their spiritual gatherings. Recently, they asked us to move the basket away from the fence, maybe by a hundred feet. This leaves us with a dull shot pretty much in the open. But build one of these and all of a sudden you have a signature shot. The bigger and higher the better.

What are all your experiences with basket pyramids and please link designs and pics!

There are tons of courses with elevated baskets like this, Scarboro has had one as hole one for years. Last week I played a course that had a basket on a mound that was built on another mound.

Castle Hayne has a nice basket similar to this. Hole #9 maybe?

Morley Field in San Diego has two pyramids, holes 5 and 15. Chili Park near Rochester has elevated pins not on wooden pyramids tht I like better. More natural. If you can build up a dirt natural mound, do it. If not, plant some obstacle trees to shape the flight path. I really do like the new stump elevated position on Golden Gate hole 6! Kinda natural.

actually Prerube I saw it on the video...

Joe Graham, I like 6's new position as well, but I doubt that it lasts as long as the pyramid on 11.
