USDGC 2011

I'm so confused by the 2011 USDGC. the performance edition was won by John Key. so, was there an open division? for touring pros like Climo, Doss, Locastro, etc?

what the hell happened, when Shusterick won this year, he was a back to back champ even though the last time he won was 2010.

sorry if this has been covered before but I confoosed.

2011 was Performance Edition only, trophy only, no open division. So technically, Will won the tournament as an open division, raw score, twice in a row since there was no such division in 2011.

Innova said they went to this model to help make the tournament more financially sustainable rather than a money suck hole. I think there is an interview with Jonathon Poole and Billy Crump about the situation on the youtubes somewhere but I can't look it up at work.

What's more retarded is the guy that won only won because his projected score was based off a rating that he got after only 4 or 5 rated rounds, playing with his left hand because he injured his right arm and was waiting for it to heal. He played USDGC after his right arm healed and cleaned up. They put restrictions in place this year to prevent that from happening again.

Yeah, they were initially going to switch up performance and open year to year, so open would play every other year. Nobody liked that idea. Now they're doing 50/50 split fields for open and performance every year.

Threads blew up hard when they first announced changes to the way our beloved US Championship tourney would be run & who would be playing.
Bottom-line: the sponsorship money needed to run the tourney was not available.

You sure about that? They chose to not put up the money.
