"Friends and Family" Division

I noticed a "new" division billed for this tournament. A visit to the PDGA tournament page reveals it to be the existing "novice" division with a different name.

There has been some discussion here in the past about calling the "novice" division something more palatable. I like this alternative better than most options. What do you think about this alternative division name?

Interesting....but I feel it dosen't mean the same thing as novice. And if it does then I would say its very misleading.

I bet that it's named in that way due to the tournament itself, not in an attempt to re-name the Novice division. It's a memorial tournament. My guess is the intent is to have a place for those of Bob Robertson's family and friends that don't play a lot of disc golf to still come out to support and participate in the event. It probably has nothing to do with MA4 at all, other than needing some designation when the results are submitted to the PDGA (the sanctioning agreement specifically disallows holding non-sanctioned divisions, mainly for insurance purposes).

Neither is accurate for what is the lowest-skill division. "Novice" is, at least, brief.

"Am Women" isn't a PDGA division, either.

The flyer also says this is a "tournamet". I'm not sure what that is either.

^^^Its Texas---but then, the spelling and grammar on DGCR are none too sophisticated either. Whomever's responsible, it doesn't reflect well on the printing company not to have caught the mistake.

This rings true. Nice idea to introduce very new players to the game. Let them play with whom they like and still get the chance to give to the cause. Maybe OP is making a little too much of it?

^^^+1 ru4por, but I think Jen was just noticing the difference, not judging.
