Tyger River Disc Golf Course

Has anyone heard anything on the New Disc Golf Course going in at Tyger River Sports Complex in Reidville? I have been there and it looks like all that needs to be done is the tee pads finished, mowing done, and baskets placed.

Should be real soon now.
From what I've heard, the tee pads are in and the signs/baskets should be going in really soon. I'm meeting with the Spartanburg Parks and Rec guys later this week. I'll come back here with more info if there's anything fun to share.

I met with the Spartanburg Parks and Rec folks yesterday to discuss these courses and our future plans. I'm extremely happy with how excited they are about disc golf and the courses they're installing in Spartanburg. All three courses are Russell Schwarz designs.

Tyger River is closest to completion. All the tee pads are in, and they're going to be installing signs and baskets very soon. It will be open for casual play within the next week or two. The city will be holding an official grand opening sometime in October, probably, with some sort of golf event afterward that we'll organize. The Parks guys are enthusiastic about holding events out there, and we'll start incorporating these courses into our schedule as soon as we can. They're going to continue working on benches, trashcans, shelters, etc, and I'm confident they'll do a great job.

Old Canaan will be a shorter course but will feature a lot of elevation. Holston will be a monster, probably with 3 sets of pads. Both of those courses are still early in their construction phases and won't be open until at least spring 2015.

Baskets are not installed yet. The parks department is taking their time and making sure everything is in place before they install the baskets. They don't want people coming out and playing it and going home to complain that there weren't any tee signs on the course...

We're going to host the official grand opening on October 25. Ribbon cutting, picture for the paper, that kind of stuff. Afterwards we'll have a fun round of pro-am captain's choice (hopefully get some newbies out there). No entry, no prizes, just fun. Details will be posted on our webpage and facebook soon.

There will be tons of benches and trashcans. Nice tee pads with tee signs and a bag-hanger post on every hole. I know it's been "real soon now" for over a month, but in the end, we'll all be pleased with the course. Pretty soon we'll all forget about this little "delay" (not a real delay since there was never an actual date that was promised).

Course should be a lot of fun and different from most courses in the upstate.

These are the distances as I GPSed/walked them:
1 - 275, lightly wooded
2 - 210, wooded
3 - 300, uphill, wooded
4 - 370, downhill, tight, wooded
5 - 195, super tight, wooded
6 - 425, dogleggy, semi uphill, moderately wooded
7 - 210, lightly wooded, elevated pin
8 - 315, lightly wooded
9 - 250, tight off tee, lightly wooded
10 - 560, open, downhill
11 - 570, open, uphill
12 - 230, mostly open
13 - 310, mostly open, uphill
14 - 260, downhill, guarded pin
15 - 1050, long
16 - 500, up down up, completely open
17 - 425, OB islands, completely open
18 - 660, uphill, mostly open

Something like 7100 feet, par 62

Sounds great. How's it going to compare to other courses in the region - Timmons, Century, Va-Du-Mar, Grand Central, Foothills, etc.?

This is going to be one more reason to make the drive on I-85 in SC.

Not quite as good as Central or Shoally/VaDuMar, but better than everything else in the area. We'll incorporate it into PDGA events immediately. Could possibly be a fun crosstown event with Shoally.
