Shop made disc retriever

This is a prototype that I made to put out at my local course, Herman C. Michael Park.
I'm thinking that I'll have to tweak it out some or possibly change the head design.
Any one else have any thoughts?

Are you mounting it on a pole, or dragging it with a rope? If dragging, better have some ballast, or drill some holes or it's gonna float.

It's on a 14' piece of sch 40 pipe. It does float, because some of the chukkers here will throw it into the pond.

It maybe too thick to pick up discs. I just experimented with a real golden retriever this weekend in Comming. We got 3 discs in less than 10 minutes. We could see the discs before hand but still, that thing worked like a charm. I do like the idea but halfinch or an inch wide PVC would be better to pic up the disc or discs.

I tried smaller diameter pipe and the weight of the head caused the pipe to break...

Right on. Used to have a nice piece of metal pipe at a course near me, then some kid chucked it in the creek. Hope they got a nice splash out of it

Might poke holes, but a double fish hook with a heavy sinker might work great. Could always grind the points round. Put it on a reel with some high test line. Wouldn't leave it out at the course though.

I left it there on purpose so that other discers could retrieve thier discs. I actually made 2 so that there is one on either side of the pond.

Thanks for the feedback!

What about filling the smaller pipe? Liquid foam? Something better and cheaper?
