I don't suppose you have the data on what each player's rating was at the time of each event? With that, it might be possible to actually test whether switching away from the PDGA 'compression formulas' to using the slope of the linear formula used to derive the SSA for the round would increase the correlation coefficient for ratings or not (I wrote a huge post about it a while back)..
