Sternum Pain
Hey guys, new to the forum, but have been playing disc golf for around 4 years now. I am left handed and have never had any issue with pain before until recently. Im 24, Used to play baseball, stretch well and throw around 350-370.
Towards the end of summer I began to notice a pain on the inside of my left pectoral at the end of the night when i started to settle down. (Basically the middle of the chest where theres no muscle). Over the past few weeks the pain has gotten worse to the point that i have not been able to disc golf for 2 weeks now and it doesnt seem to be healing. It feels as though the bone right there in the middle/left side is somewhat swollen and very tender. Is it possible to fracture your sternum throwing backhand and not even know it? There was never an injury to my chest that i can recall while throwing so im really in the dark on this one. Also, i should note that my sternum cracks and hurts when i turn my neck and look behind. I have been using ice and advil. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks |

Hey Lefty, welcome to the forum!
Before anyone else says it I will, be sure and see a doctor and take their advice over any advice given on the Internet. ![]() Good luck! |

I'd speculate, but....everytime I guess at my own injuries, doctors prove me completely wrong. How much wronger could I be guessing at someone else's? But I'd be very curious to find out what this turns out to be, as it's a new one to me.

Ice and Advil are good - go see a doctor - now.
By the way - don't play disc golf, or anything else, until you do. Update us when you get the report from your doctor... thanks in advance!

I have a hiatal hernia that I was diagnosed with a few years back. Sounds similar to the "pain" you are talking about right in the middle of the chest. Look it up, then hope you don't have it, then go see the doctor!!

I am guessing you dislocated a rib. I have had this happen to me. Chiropractic adjustment did the trick. Make sure you get professional medical advice though to rule out anything more serious. Good luck!

I dislocated a rib mountain biking about 15 years ago, and the pain sounds similar. Gotta relax and let it recover, see a doc, and be prepared to scream like a little girl an instant after you sneeze.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I will be seeing a doctor on Monday. I'll be sure to let you all know what exactly is going on.

If your seeing an MD and he says your fine, here take some pain pills or flexeril.... Better go see the chiro next. Sounds like you subluxated a rib head from the sternum! Nothing the Md can treat, only chiropractor or a very skilled pt.

I could tell you a long story that resulted in the beautiful scar running down my chest, but instead I would strongly suggest a Dr's appointment. Internet disc golfer medical advice isn't a great idea.
