There are socks made for mountain biking that are very thin and very comfortable. They are tight on the foot and breath very well. They really do the job of keeping your feet warm and dry and are just thick enough to protect from blisters or rubbing from your shoes/boots. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and have fun.

Also using some goldbond down the shorts to protect the jewels wouldn't be a bad idea either.
