I like Convict Conditioning program/book by Paul "Coach" Wade. It is set of 6 main bodyweight exercises with 10 steps progression (i.e. wall pushup being Step 1 and one handed pushup being Step 10). There is CC II book which covers minor parts such as calves, neck, hands etc... There are CC apps for iPhone and Android that allows you to keep track of your CC progression. (Rep Tracker for iPhone, Criminal Record & CC Tracker for Android)

PX90 is other good program that I would like to try someday.

CrossFit would be great if there is one locally. My daughter loves CrossFit. I tried one session and it did kicked my butts.

I have long term neck issues (well started in 2010) and I am giving Egoscue Method a shot. Egoscue Method is good for those who have issues with pain in the joints etc and helps improve body's alignment (i.e. have good "S" spinal curve, correct balanced hips, etc). http://www.egoscue.com

"Pain Free" book by Pete Egoscue is one of their most popular books.

I would think some yoga or Pilates would be useful to build core strength and flexibility. You may not look manly, but it might help quite a bit. I'd say, lunges, squats, push ups and either yoga or pilates and you'd be on to something. And if you bought some bands you could probably expand it a little.

Yoga is great! It will greatly improve your balance, flexibility/range of motion, and core strength. I started doing it for a light workout/stress relief and I was surprised at how well improvements in yoga transferred to my game.

Plus you get the added bonus of seeing your body do things you never thought was possible... and of course seeing the other practitioners testing their flexibility in yoga pants isn't exactly a negative.

at this point with my job all i do is yoga and lots of stretching, but planks, body dips, pushups are all great core exercises for the lean muscle desired.
