Putting with left foot forward (and other unconventional styles)

Lately, I've been messing around in my basement with different putting styles. I happened upon two that seem to work, and I'm wondering if anyone else does these things successfully.

1. As a righty, i'm doing a staggered stance with my LEFT foot forward. This seems to help my weight shift, and makes it much easier for my arm to not swing out to the right. I seemed pretty accurate with this style.

2. I also tried the traditional right-foot-out staggered stance, but swinging my arm OUTSIDE of my lead leg and doing sort of a push-putt style of putting. It sort of reminds me of bowling this way, but with my feet switched. When this is working, it's very accurate. However, I took this style out to the course one day, and I was terrible with it.

Thoughts?

Try straddle putting. You are essentially doing it now since you can't really get your weight behind the putt with your left foot forward.

I played in a group at my last tournament with a guy that putted "dad" style, you basically putt all wrist from your ankles.

I've seen some old school players putting like pitching a horseshoe where righthanders step forward with their left foot with that foot ending up behind their mark during release.

Some people say I putt with my back to the basket, or backwards. Actually my right shoulder blade does face the target in my stance. Ask anyone from Cincy that has been around as long as I have and they will tell you my putting has always been very strong.

I walk up to my mini from the side. At first I had the center of my foot behind my marker with the toes and heel on either side. I had to alter that because when I released the disc I was on my toes and really not behind the marker. So now my toes are behind my marker with my heel off to the side...if that makes any sense.

The idea is it's the same position you are in when releasing the disc off the tee and much more accurate for me.

As far as putting your left foot forward, I have seen Nikko do that some. You can see it in this video, especially at 0:36:

And as for putting on the right side of your body, here's a video of a guy that's pretty good at that:

I use the same kind of pendulum putting motion as Nikko, and I also sometimes putt left foot forward. It keeps the right leg away from your pendulum backswing, and you can give a good push with your right leg to get more power. Most often I putt with right foot forward staggered stance, like Nikko does in that video at 1:20, but when I straddle, I am usually left foot forward.

Wow -- I never realized Nikko did that. That's very similar to what I have been practicing. I think I'll keep at it -- certainly isn't hurting me any, that's for sure.

Great find on the 2nd video, also.

Day 2 of taking the left-foot-forward (Nikko-style) putting method to the course -- had huge success with it. Didn't miss anything inside the circle in the round I played. I'm really excited about this.
