My DGCR reviews...HELP ME HELP YOU!

Folks,

Haven't been getting a lot of thumb up love on my reviews. Come to think of it I haven't got too many thumb downs either. Anyways, I really want to contribute to the DG community because clearly I am never going to do it my awesome (or lack thereof) play. SOOOOOO...Please take a minute and look at my reviews and let me know what I can do better before I write anymore reviews. Thanks!

-Dave

I think you're doing a good job (and gave you a thumbs up on one of your reviews). My guess is the problem is that you're reviewing courses that aren't very popular. All of my highest thumbs up'd reviews are from places like Highbridge or Idlewild. Tons of my reviews are from courses in Germany where no one really reads (let alone like) them but I put a lot of time into updating the course page with pictures and stuff. Also note that the majority of people who use this site aren't members and can't thumb. Just keep at it!

^ this. Write reviews for popular courses and you attract attention. Write reviews for unpopular courses and you get few thumbs. So far, I've written 84 reviews:

10 reviews account for 33% of my total responses, all of those are for big name courses that are popular inside and outside the state they are in.
I also have 21 reviews that account for than 9% of my responses, because no one really seems to care about those courses.

Had you written reviews for Highland and Rogers Lakewood - you'd have gotten a decent # of hits. But sometimes you get back from a trip and reviews aren't a priority. I meant to write reviews for my trip to North/South Carolina, but never got around to it... stuff happens.

Also, it's getting a bit harder to get thumbs because as more people join the site, more reviews get written, and new reviews fall off the Home Page faster than they used to. A lot of the attention reviews garner is based on people seeing a course they're interested in under New Reviews on the Home Page, rather than from the course's review page.

A lot of times it depends on where the courses are. I review local courses and get lots of feedback. I reviewed a couple in New Mexico, and pretty much nothing.

Interesting, never even dawned on me that the popularity of a course affects the amount of feedback...hmmm...That's a good reason to go back to Highland and play it again.

People shouldn't be writing reviews to get thumbs and TR medals. That's why the top courses have 8 kazillion reviews, and why we have 3600 courses in the U.S. alone (about 6 out of 7 listed) that don't have enough reviews to qualify for the top ten list. Show those courses some love (or anger and disgust when appropriate).

I just want feedback. That's all. I just want to be helpful - seriously.
