OK, since I'm new here...what's with the Polecat?

I can' t help but notice a running joke throughout the posts about The Polecat.

I happen to own one I found in the mid-90's, my buddy and I used to play catch with it when stuck at the house. It was a disc we could make do anything we wanted it to do. Never really use it on the course though.

anyway, What's the joke with them?

Just that they're a silly disc?
They're a newb-indicator?
Just a general crap disc?

do they even make them anymore?

I've played with a lot of people, and only ever seen one who actually used the polecat, and it didn't seem to work all that well. He let me try it, and I found it truly awful to hold and to throw.

well, I'm glad the one I have was a found disc, and not something I bought.
But, like I said, I never actually used it on the course, only playing catch in the street.

At least I know when people laugh at me while playing, it'll be for my horrible shot, and not the disc I'm using!

I'll turn it upside down and use it to putt into a strong headwind. Never fails.

I have one friend that owns that piece of crap polecat and they suck at putting. It is only useful if you need a lid without a handle.

The Polecat is still available but is in high disrepute with the mainstream DGer.

It is a great disc for these kids to use because it is simple to throw.

They used to be quite popular in the 90's when they first came out. I remember Mitch McClellan used to call it his "Polish Kitty".

I think its great. Will hold and float what ever line you put it on. I've sunk many long putts with a polecat (majority anhyzer around what ever obstacle) A friend of mine is a sick putter with one. I'll bet most who laugh, have never thrown.
