A) Who's Averey?

B) And what exactly is this gravy train you're referring to? B/c I know it's not about any pro disc golfer getting rich off of signature disc royalties.
A) Really? /rollseyes

B) His name is on arguably the most popular/best selling distance driver for several years at this point. If there is any sort of 'gravy train'... he's definitely been riding that baby for a few years (too long IMO).

I was using the term in a relative sense. Tricky, I know.

I apologize for not understanding your tricky use of "gravy train" too well. But you can be sure that if I try taking food out of a hardworking, classy pro's mouth, I'll make sure I spell his name correctly while doing it.

Ok... so who cares if he's a 'class act' or a total dickhead.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Signature discs aren't decided by how friendly a pro is to his/her fans and colleagues.

As far as the choices go, is there such a thing as a Firebird 3 or is that some wish list disc? I don't see Paul throw Gators much so that's out. AJ's name is on the DS so that is out.

My vote was for Aviar, close second would be the Nova.

Paul wouldn't make as much money per Mcpro Aviar if they were sold at wholesale prices to retail. But the volume would go up...

I see no reason he would want to take the Aviar out of the factory store. It has become a staple of the factory store, I'm sure he'll want to be adding MORE instead of taking away or shifting molds. They already give him 2 discs in the factory store, why not 3 there and another at retail?

Avery's name will not come off the Destroyer.

That just comes down to if the increased volume would be worth the decreased cut he'd be taking. Without knowing Paul's take its impossible to say.

I think standard production wholesale mcpro aviars and roc3s would be huge sellers and a major win for paul and innova. But that's just a guess.

I agree, but I'll offer this caveat: I don't know how hard (or expensive) it is to produce McPro plastic. It may simply be that it's difficult and therefore they limit the Aviars and Roc3s to limited batches. Again, I don't know this and am just speculating on a possibility. But I throw it out there (pun not intended) for your consumption.

I don't know but suspect that this is one reason Star plastic went soft (and to the dogs, but I digress), and why GStar is being pushed upon us by Mr. Dunipace & Co. Again, just sheer speculation...

Nobody is saying he's getting rich. The point is that Avery's destroyer royalties are the only thing keeping him a full time disc golfer at this point. At a current rating of 1014 and a PDGA world ranking of 39th he's WAY below the other full time, disc golf exclusive guys. This all goes back to my previous post; should an innova player expect to keep his signature discs indefinitely? Avery hasn't been competitive in big events in quite some time.

This could all be a moot point. Avery's got a family now, and he's probably looking to get off the road. Hopefully he can make his own decision on that. Also, I really like Avery as a human being, so I'm not suggesting taking his name off out of spite or anything like that.

I've seen Avery be a bit of a dick to a fan (me) in person. Also, I think he's a little touchy about the whole Destroyer subject. I think he knows he doesn't deserve it at this point, so I don't think he really likes people bringing it up. He certainly snapped at me when I asked about it at the Beaver State Fling, and all I was asking was how it was decided that he got the Destroyer to begin with (as in, was it his choice or Innova's). I was interested in the process of how those things are decided and asked a very non-threatening question (at least in my opinion), so I think he's kind of touchy about it.

I really think it's funny how people assume certain athletes are great human beings when they've only seen them on film footage or from a distance or at a disc signing, and haven't spoken more than 3 words to them in person. Seriously guys, which one if you has even sat down and had a drink with Avery or played a casual round with him? Who knows which players are nice people and which ones are dicks really? I mean someone can handle themselves very professionally in a tournament and still act like a jerk off the course.

I've met/spoken with/done a clinic with/ watched live Avery half a dozen times over the last 6-7 years. The second time I bumped into him He specifically remembered me and where he met me before 3 years later and halfway across the country. I think that says a lot about a persons character. I wouldn't call him a friend or anything crazy like that, but every time I've talked to him over the years he's been super approachable, friendly, and happy to strike up a random conversation about whatever. To say I KNOW Avery would be BS. But I have spoken more then 3 words to him, and I think that allows me to say I LIKE Avery. Or is that not up to your standards?

Allow me to add that Valarie Jenkins (Doss) is with Innova, too... But her husband Nate is with Discraft. Would Innova want to upset Valarie by kicking Avery to the kerb vis-a-vis the Destroyer?

Just a thought...

Back to McBeast. I just had a premonition about the Mako3, which he throws... We could see something there for McBeth... (No, probably not a McPro plastic Mako3, but who knows?)

Time will tell....

Yeah I'd rather see a mako3 signature series than a nova. The mako3 is a great disc.

Haha, I see I hit a nerve. Sorry for insulting your favorite pro. You're allowed to like and be a fan of anyone you want obviously. My point wasn't specifically that Avery is a jerk; like I said my only personal experience was him being a bit prickly to me. He may be a great guy; I've no more had a beer and a long, personal conversation with him than anyone else on here. My main point is that whenever ANY pro gets mentioned on here, there are always people who pipe up with "he's a great guy (or gal)" and, my favorite, "a great embassador for the sport" (whatever the heck that means). Obviously, everybody picks their favorite players based on WHATEVER criteria (who you're attracted to, who seems cooler, who said a nice thing to you when they signed your disc, who remembered your name, etc.) and that is all fine. However, I think people extend it way too far when they start up with "he's a great guy" and all this BS because you have no idea.
