Disclaimer 1) I know it's spelled McBeth, it makes the play on words more...pompous? No, that can't be it

Disclaimer 2) I'm either committing the vilest heresy or saving saving the brightest star in DG

Disclaimer 3) I wasn't paying attention to DG until last year so I didn't experience 2012-2015 for all the historical perspective

OK, here we go: McBeth is done. I predict he'll be 1030 rated before he's ever 1050 rated again; if he is ever rated that high again. No DGPT or NT first places the rest of the year and more finishes out of the top 10 than in. I can't tell you how painful it is to type this: Don't waste your Skip Ace picks.

I feel sick and sad and I hope I'm wrong and I hope every last poster tears me to pieces with acerbic wit and irrefutable arguments against. And if anyone mentions marriage or wife, may you be blessed with the peaceful relationship you deserve

Let the flaming begin!

Well, I think we enjoy jumping the gun. He's had a slow start this season, sure. This is his second not top ten finish this year.

I suppose it's important to say: He is Paul McBeth. He's going to win. He does that.

He's got more wins than Rick this year, thus far, also.

He's not going anywhere.

But go Eagle!!

Look how many guys averaged 1040+ this week...

Its a whole new ballgame and they aint skeer'd of him anymore... But i'd say its very premature to write him off. Eventually, he will get pissed off enough to go into cyborg mode... Sorry Hannah, but I need to practice, lol...

Paul is still the best stamina golfer (bring back the extra rounds at worlds) and multi course tournament pro on tour. The field is catching up with higher level of play combined with only needing to learn one course which levels the playing field even more.

Thanks for the spoiler!! . . Not!

Been out of town and I was going to catch up and watch the post event coverage, now I don't know if I will. Never cared for the GBO much anyway.:gross:

GBO was boring before they went to 3 rounds on the same course. I'm very much looking forward to edited FPO coverage this week (if there is any, Terry was doing booth commentary)

I think DinosaurThunder brings up a very good point though. And another reason why the best pure disc golfers can rip on any course they step on. DG should be treated less like ball golf in this sense - more courses and variety can and should be a test for pros more often - Not just who can figure out the course faster.

OP, I hope you like the taste of crow. Youll be eating some. I'm not even a Mcbeth fanboy its just simple look at any other athlete. When people do things like buy homes, get married and so on they become distracted (rightfully so) he will regain his focus and crush another world title or two before he is done. Thats just my opinion.

This is the exact kind response I was looking for. I do hope to eat crow with a side of humble pie. I hope that he eclipses Climo in wins and length of career.

Great response, thank you.

Off topic: What disc did he jump putt in with in that eagle video posted on the first page? Didn't look like one of his Galactic or what ever Aviars. Did he just not use those outside the circle? I haven't watched the entire event and didn't notice.

Yeah this makes perfect sense because MJ just hides under a bridge nowadays.

Take it back, OP. You should be ashamed.

He really only had one round that was below expectations for him. And if he'd shot his rating on every round, he still would have tied for fourth or fifth. There were just too many guys having the tournament of their life for some reason.

There are more guys playing at "Mcbeth level" than ever before because of Mcbeth pushing them. Eagle spent all winter training in the mountains. So did Simon. Anykne here paybatte tion to social media? Drew Gibson is more fo used than ever and hlbent on pushing for a win. Sexton Wysocki and Koling are always there. Guys like Grady Shue, Kevin Jones, Eric Oakley, Nate Perkins, Garret Gurthie, AJ Risley, Presnell, Devan Owens all seem to not be taljed about but that'll change soon everyone is playing better, training like athletes now. Mcbeth hasn't fallen everyone else has risen up as a result of his play. Its not as easy for him because of himself, now theres a paradoxical conundrum in which to be stuck.

1030 before 1050 is a bit of a hot take. He hasn't been rated lower than 1040 since he won his first worlds, which includes during the worst of his injuries.

My take is that he's just too aggressive all of the time. The meta game is changing, course design is changing, etc. His round ratings seem (to the eye, haven't run a model) to be still at that elite 1% level, but people have learned to how to counter punch him.

He's playing like Simon used to, trying to throw highlight rounds. There are just too many more players who are making him pay for mistakes these days so he can't clear the leaderboard like he used to.
