Old Farts Only 40+ (no kids allowed)

What do you find most annoying about the new disc golf scene?

I think the Aero was OOP for some period of time in the late 90's/early 2000's as well.

I vaguely remember something about that. I'm sure I had no trouble buying them at that time. In addition to it being a favorite, I used to give them away to newbs. I would go through several every year.

Last year, I went back to a classic bag that fit like an old pair of jeans.

...

Any other old farts feel me on this?

The problem I was faced with was that of availability. Far too many of the discs I'd long thrown were OOP. I began exploring new discs in earnest to find models that were likely to be available for a longish spell.

So, were I to use my classic bag, I'd be hard-pressed to find all of the models I'd want. Using my current bag, I have discs that remind me a good deal of those classics.

I could go back to my classic bag pretty readily:

Valks
Teebirds
Leopard
Banshee
Rocs
Comet
Wizards

JK Valk is the only one that would be hard to replace. The rest were stock.

Original bag:
Raven
Valk
Omega SS
Classic Roc
+whatever else I'd find on the course with no phone #

I'd like to go back to the Vortex, Cyclone and Eclipse era. I have some nice memories from those discs but since they ended I've thrown Innova.

So, as a 61 yr old who's just gotten into this and has no history, as I mentioned, I ran out and bought a couple dozen cool looking discs and a pro looking bag. Then reading what the more experienced people here posted, I hit the brakes hard, did an about face, and built a limited bag containing the likes of the Leopard, Teebird, Challenger, Wizard, Buzzz variety. Being someone that understands the way that retail works, sales of product keeps the lights on and the doors open, so to speak. With the current boom in interest in this sport, is this the driving force behind all of these new understable molds and stuff that weren't around before? In other words are they necessary, or is it fueling the money machine and filling the pro's bank accounts as an industry enjoys growth?

Whatever the marketing behind it is, the Undertaker is a dang fine disc. I've seen so many differences in Leopards' stability over the years, to me, more understable flyers mean better choices for a type of disc everyone should have in their bag.

Bah, when did discs get so expensive, who the heck wants to throw MVP anyway, get off the bandwagon and let me buy a envy you fame following, fickle, second hand mold associating world champs!

Which one of you posers bought that one off mvp buy and sell, yellow with blue rim electron for $40, go home and smack yourself in the head with it.

For me it's the rules. I still don't follow them. If I throw OB and can take a shot from OB I just take it. I don't really mess with marker discs. I just want to play. I'm not competitive. I'm never ever gonna call someone on a foot fault. I don't care what anyone else does.

But it's not JUST the rules of play, it's the community. I found a disc the other day and posted on a local FB forum. Well it was endless scolding and it was idiotic. Pedantic morons like f&cking ants telling me about a dedicated lost and found forum but no link. Need to show the whole disc so why? So anyone can claim it? Let me know if it's your disc. If not STFU.

Hell, I even posted my bag here and got no responses, I assume because I didn't give info about my distance on the open. Well, I don't have that data yet and it's changing quickly. F a buncha rules. I don't want to waste anyone's time but I always reserve my right to defer to common sense. Play on

In order to speed up play, casual rounds in our group... we just walk OB to the nearest "in bounds" point and play on. It eliminates discussion on where it went OB, back tracking and such. Same rules for everyone and we're not even slower on busy courses. It's all about keeping it fun.

How do you handle scenarios where you can't see the disc in the water? Do you default to last place inbounds or just estimate where it's located in the water and play from nearest point IB?

We have two holes that shoot back and forth at each other with a creek in-between; the creek is to your right on both shots. During the Sunday morning Frisbitarian group if you flip over the creek we play it as mark your lie on the edge of creek parallel to where your disc is on the other side; otherwise the old guys have to get to the other side of the creek and it takes forever. We all have lunch plans and places to be; ain't nobody got time to watch my old a** struggle down and up the slope of a stupid creek.

It's probably to most common thing people mention when they say why they don't go to Sunday morning Frisbitarians. It seems most people are really attached to rules.
