In your opinion what Gateway Disc is the counterpart to:

Z Avenger
X Avenger
Pro Boss
Pro Katana
ESP Surge
ESP Force
Z Predator
Z Buzzz
Z Wasp
10x Roc

Just curious as I may want to try some Gateway stuff.

TIA

Only thing I can think of is a Warrior maybe being close to the Wasp, maybe a Ninja to a Katana but the Ninga isnt legal.

All those discs that you listed are either marginally or way better than anything Gateway has that compares. Throw their putters, that's the only thing they put a consistent effort towards.

If you must throw some drivers, the new Savage and Apaches made in the last year or so are really nice plastic...They are kind of like your Force and Surge, only slower and older feeling in general.

The element is like a beat in buzzz. I used it for a little while, then I beat a buzzz to the point it did the same thing pluss some extra stuff. Not any better than the buzzz, but if you want to spend some cash you could give it a try

I agree. I would only add that the spirit and predator would be similar but the spirit is a little more overstable.

i was given a few by a buddy who used to play for gateway and the only gateway disc i ever kept is an evo sabre, but it still never really makes it in the bag

I have two huge issues with Gateway. Every driver of theirs that I've ever held or thrown feels horrible in the hand. The domes are so tall, and extend all the way to the edge of the wing. If feels like I'm trying to grip a boxshell turtle.

The larger issue, of course, is that they put zero effort into making consistent discs. I used to throw an Element for touch and turnover shots. Hit a couple trees and it got too flippy. I've felt and/or thrown three elements since then, and none of them were even close. It's a crap shoot as to what sort of disc your getting.

I have a bunch of Gateway stuff coming in the mail, I'm pretty excited. The Blaze is probably most like a Whippet.

My newest issue it their reusing old names. I came back after my hiatus and saw they were making warriors again, and then found out its entirely a different disc.

I was a gateway fanboy, but their plastics are so different from run to run, sometimes they are not even the plastic they are labeled, order a SSS wizard, then a week later order a SSS wizard, one will flop like a pancake the other will be stiffer than Apothecary at an overeaters ananymous meeting. The weights are always wrong, and are often so heavy that they are illegal.
Gateway makes a good putter, but this former fan boy has even given up on those.

So are you saying you don't use their putters either?

If you like them use them, but weight them on your own.

Also buy them in person, not online. If you find something you like buy 6

Sadly, nobody carries them around here. The only place that sells discs is a kids toy store. But, they only carry Innova and a DX disc is $12 plus tax. I just bought a cryztal Buzzz for that much. :\

There might be some stores down in Toronto but that's an hou and half away.

One disc that I am intrigued by, though, is the Warrior (not the old mold Warrior). It's rim is a bit wider (almost 1.4cm) than a typical mid (Roc 1.2cm, Buzzz close to 1.3cm) and yet is thinner giving it a lower profile. It almost feels like a wider rimmed Core, and has a small bead that can barely be felt. And it's large diameter.

It seems a bit unique and I'm just starting to mess with it...it's either a really fast mid, or a very slow driver.

what are you looking for? I have a lot of gateway putters, Jrawk has tons of gateway discs too.
we can help you find what you are looking for.
If you do a thanksgiving time road trip to Rochester NY (I may be able to get to Buffallo), I will give you some gateway plastic :)

Buy from Marshall Street...they weigh them. In all honesty, I've had very little variation with my Voodoos from the written weight to the actual, usually +/- one gram.

Let's face it: we've all had problems with actual weight from all the manufacture's. I wouldn't base a disc decision on that. Innova, Discraft, Lat 64...all guilty, too.

Not looking for much right now as I just got my Gateway fill to test/try. But, I'll definitely keep you two in mind.

Thanks everybody, good stuff.
I thought I'd hear more of the 'try a Gateway such-n-such it'll go a little farther/shorter than the ESP Surge' or the like but this is all good stuff too.

Cheers.
