I like to keep anything from a 1-8 speed at 175g, and then 9-13 speed around 170 depending on the stability of the disc. I'll go lighter weight on overstable drivers for better control and distance. I live and play in a windy area off the atlantic ocean so heavier discs are key for the wind...
I just started about 6 months ago and I love the elite X comet from Discraft. slightly understable so easy to throw, but once you get better its great for hyzerflips for max distance on a straight line. Gstar discs or Pro plastic from Innova are supper grippy if that's what you're looking for...
