Agreed. A fresh max weight Icon Patriot is way more stable than the numbers let on. I have a growing stack of 165-168s in that more gummy blend that are finally flying like the under stable numbers, but any of my heavier and stiffer Icon or Pinnacles have more fade than my fresh DX or E*...
Dave D. said in some interview that Thunderbirds mold up well in G* because of the thick shoulder, I assume TB is same.
I throw Rivals, but I have a 150g G* for a couple upshot at my home course. Even at that weight it does not feel too floppy ( but I like grippy discs). YMMV

Yup. I am 6'3" 250ish and when I put my son's on this is the feeling I get as well. My skinny 14yr old son is perfect with it, even though he is 5'11", so I think it is more girth than height.
If it is that OS it should be a good headwind or forehand disk.
If you want a staight fairway that is beginner friendly get a 170g Latitude River. Those things are glidey lasers. Or troll the used bins for a beat up DX Teebird.

I have been using the last two year's Ace Race discs for those shots. Last year's Archer is a super flippy mid that I can hyzer flip to turnover, and this year's is the same but faster and longer.
A lighter weight River may also work and still give him the driver feel.

Agreed. My Icon Phenom is my goto laser, even more so than my Patriots. But my Pats are finally breaking in so that may change soon.

I put with Prime Judges, love them. Also have a Prime Saint that I never should of let my son throw, because I never got it back. I describe is as the feel of Pro D but the durability of DX.
