A well known classic worth coming back to! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 16, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

+ Beginner-friendly.
+ Locals are nice.
+ Well upkept.
+ The openess of the course means you won't be losing any discs.
+ Some satisfying downhill tee-offs (especially on 16 (from the long tee) and 18) that almost ensure you come back.
+ Good course flow.
+ Multiple tees on holes 2 and 16.
+ Multiple pin/basket positions on most holes.
+ Baskets (Dynamic Veterans) are in great condition.

Cons:

- Can get busy, especially on weekends.
- Many of the holes play on top of each other, meaning an errant throw is likely to land on another hole's fairway.
- Some of the holes play close to houses - be careful not to land in someone's yard.
- Some of the baskets are on a hill leading down to a main road. Any errant throws therefore have the possibility of hitting a car.
- Hole 16 plays next to a sidewalk. Watch for people before you tee off.
- Hole 19 plays towards the parking lot. Park by Hole 1 if possible.

Other Thoughts:

Amenities:
- Parking: Plenty.
- Restrooms: None.
- Running water: None.
- Benches: Plenty.
- Trash cans: A few.
- Bag holders: None.
- Tee signs: Newer tee signs with a hole map, par, distance, and directions to the next tee.
- Next tee/direction signs: None - though the implied path and tee signs help with this.
- Wheelchair/cart friendly: No.

Ring the Belmont 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

~100% Classic park style golf
~Good course flow & easy navigation
~Repeatable fun factor
~Clean park, decent location
~A nice variety of shots, distances, and options
~Appealing to all skill levels

Cons:

~Course shows it's age overall, but I respect it for what it is
~Tee pads are fairly beat up
~Some hole & tee pad proximity issues in a couple spots
~Holes 1 & 19 throw a little too close to the parking lot for comfort

Other Thoughts:

I've always enjoyed the classic park style courses with their rolling elevation changes and shot shaping around and through mature trees. There's this happy vibe I get whenever I'm immersed on a course in a city park that is a feeling all it's own. Belmont is a true local course that stands up proud.

The 19 hole layout provides very good variety throughout. Distances vary, but are realistic for the more casual player while allowing advanced throwers opportunity to score low. Relatively straightforward in it's design, I enjoyed throwing around the mature trees and adjusting for the gentle elevation differences this layout utilizes. Plenty of opportunities for fairway and distance drivers with ample amount of midrange length holes sprinkled in.

It's a fun course that offers repeatable play, a good place to just get out and throw. Overall the park is fairly clean and the location seemed nice. I can see why this is the most played course in the area since it's easily accessible for all types of throwers.

The course does show it's age, and does have an overall feel that some fresh updates and minor maintenance could keep the classic layout in tact while providing a fresh feel. The tee pads are pretty worn, but nothing that's really detracting. Some minor proximity issues could become an issue when the course is busy, but again nothing that common courtesy can't alleviate.

Quite simply put, Belmont is a fun throw that anyone could come back to time and time again.

Belmont Park 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 18, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

So this review is probably going to get me my first thumbs down.

The design of this course is awesome. Goes all the way through the park. Typical old school, nothing fancy course design (which I love).

Foliage maintenance is pretty great at this park. I actually really like the man made OB foilage "traps" on some of the holes.

My favorite thing about Belmont has to be all the benches and trash cans around. I have played at a lot of courses and this course does by far the best job of keeping the trash to a minimum and/or at least giving you a short walk if you need to throw something away.

Elevation changes are so great at Belmont. I love the downhill holes here. Makes you feel like you're throwing a country mile when you chuck a good one downhill. #11 and #18 are some of the best downhill holes I have played.

Great variety of hole distances. Short and woody and long and open. Belmont does a great job of this.

You will be surprised at the amount of shots required at Belmont. You will look and say "oh super open hole, Ill just bomb and putt." Then you will realize "ugh oh my putt has to wrap around the tree right in front of me better pull out the drone." Well thats at least what I said about 5 times.

This course is really great for people of all levels. I am not a super far driver. I seem to have a solid mid-range game so anytime a course isnt just open bombs every hole it makes the round more competitive with your long bomber friends.

This course is a pleasant challenge. I think it would be a great park to start learning the game. You won't lose a disc, it won't wear you out hiking, it doesn't offer Ace Handyman level difficulty. It will challenge every aspect of your game though driving, mid-range and putting will be tested at different times throughout the course.

Parking is great. Right next to #1 and #19 will end you an easy walk to your vehicle.

This park has a lot of scenic beauty. At first look you might think its just a plain old park but as you navigate your way through the course you will be pleasantly surprised at how nice it actually is.

This park is in a great location for southern Dayton people and northern Dayton people to travel too. I have seen tons of events listed for Belmont.

Cons:

The reason I am making the baskets a con is because there are no baskets for 13 and 14 right now. Put those back in and ill move this course up to a 3 and change this from a con to a pro.

I am also going to give the tee pads a con. Probably not the parks fault but the giant dick graffiti on the tee pads is pretty alarming in a public park. I understand the Jonah Hill Superbad kid comes out young men sometimes, but come on people this is a public park where kids go. Not cool.

Map Markers are getting a con as well. They have to figure out a way to show which location the basket is at. If there is a way they show this then I am sorry for putting this as a con, but either way if I couldnt find it easily then this has to get a con.

No super epic holes that I can think of. Maybe #11.

No camping.

One of my biggest pet peeves for a public park is no porta-pottys or restrooms. It just seems to bother me that there are a bunch of 18-50 year old men out there just wizzing wherever they want when kids could be around. Just throw in 1 porta-potty or an easier way to use the restroom here.

No running water from what I saw.

Super crowded. This is a regular for disc golfers in the Dayton area. It is great to see all the people that come out to this course, but ill be honest and say I like the much more relaxed Tcreek or Gulley Park over the super packed courses.

Attitude of locals was surprisingly a little off putting yesterday. From the homely looking men that sit at the picnic table on #2 and ask everyone that passes (including high school kids) if they had weed to sell him, to the guy that got mad that it took us over 45 seconds to find a disc in the grass, to the group of 5-6 people in front of us that seemed disgruntled when we told them to go ahead and throw so we didnt hit them on #11 (we were teeing off #10). I will say there were some really nice guys that told us where a basket was when we got a little confused. Overall probably my worst experience with locals.

Other Thoughts:

Some of the loyal Belmont fans will probably be mad at this review and thumbs down but overall I was looking for a better experience at a park that I have played once before and loved. Get rid of the dicks on the tee pads, add a reasonable place to use the bathroom, treat your disc golf brotherens a little nicer, ask the burnouts to maybe head somewhere else, put back in the baskets for #13 and #14, and clean up the map markers. If you actually fully read this review you should understand why I gave it a 2.5.

An area classic 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Feb 18, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course is a great example of old-school design, with mostly-open fairways on most holes. There are mature trees throughout. The challenge for this course comes primarily from pin placement, with several holes designed to punish drives that miss long. Many incorporate mandos, making what could be somewhat boring holes into challenging ones. The course plays on rolling hills, with elevation changes incorporated well (like on 2, 17, and 18). There are multiple pin placements for each hole, and they are rotated every couple of months. The old, rusting Mach III baskets were replaced by Dynamic Discs Veterans in October 2017. A few holes have multiple tees. Locals are friendly.

As far as amenities, there is a small disc golf shop on hole 4 that is open in the spring and summer, and a little burger stand by the hole 2 tees opened recently. I haven't had a chance to try the food but will update when I do. More importantly, one of the best pro shops in the US is less than two blocks away, Hazy Shade Disc Golf & More.

UPDATE: I had the pulled chicken sandwich from the burger stand. I'd rate it as slightly above-average. Convenience factor raises this a bit.

Cons:

Hole 19 throws toward the primary parking lot; make sure you park on the hole 1 side if possible. The course can get very muddy after it rains, and will stay soggy for days afterward. No restroom is available other than when the picnic shelter is open. With few windbreaks available, the shifting winds can play havoc on your game. Shots that miss wide are rarely punished, with open recovery lines available on almost every hole. More experienced players may not find this course challenging. Belmont Park is the center of disc golf in the Dayton area, and will be busy on nice days.

Other Thoughts:

While there are more challenging courses in the area, this is arguably the most fun round available in Dayton.

Fun. Simple. Historic. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 9, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

First of all this course has HUGE historic value for disc golf fans! It was the home of the 1991 WORLD championships. Pretty fun to think about as your playing though that at one point this course was considered so highly that worlds were held there.
-Fun and pretty easy to navigate.
-Good tee pads
-Really hard to loose a disc
-Plenty of parking
-Mostly open shots, but very hilly requiring a fun variety
-Forearm and Backhand routes for most holes

Cons:

-Some of the baskets are kind of old. Not too troublesome, but they could use improving
-Parking lot is near hole 1 and an off throw could hit your car if your park in the wrong spot
-Overall a pretty easy, simple course by today's standards. This won't challenge you too much, and you can pretty much recover no matter how bad of a shot you throw

Other Thoughts:

Great course for everyone. It really is a lot of fun. Players with less experience can learn how to control a drive, and veterans can have a birdie field day if they're on their game.

Definitely one to stop by and play! Also, there's a great disc golf shop called Hazy Shade just a few blocks away. It has an incredible disc selection.

I love Belmont 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 7, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Where to begin, this course to me is an amazing course. I like the feel of the course with a good variety of short mid and to long bomber holes.

Pros:
Teepads: concrete, they are adequate distance for good runups and some super long ones for the big holes.
grass: every time i play here the grass is well kept and is not high.
parking: there is a good amount of parking allowing about 50 cars to park.
Course layout: this course flows very well making you not walk very far between teepads. good flow.

Cons:

Some cons to the course are

Water: there is no water at the park
bathrooms: i only know of the ones in the main picnic shelter and they are mostly closed all year.
baskets: some of the baskets are improving with the new predator baskets. However a lot of them are old rusted and have been used over time.
parking: i know i said this as a pro but it is a con for another reason. Hole 1 if you park on the left side coming into the park, it throws directly at the parking lot. an errant shot can and will hit a car that could break a windshield for dent the car.

Other Thoughts:

Overall the course is very fun. This is a must play for me when i go to Dayton. Mainly due to the fun factor of the course. Shooting -5 to -10 is a good round here but tottaly do able. my best being -7.

***another key note, a 5 minute drive to Hazy shade is a great reason to come throw here.*****

Real let down 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 4, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good shot variance
Nice distance changes
Nice concrete tee pads

Cons:

Shady local hang arounds
Old baskets
Hard to navigate
Fairways on top of each other

Other Thoughts:

After hearing this was a nice course I traveled 25 minutes to play it passing several other courses that were way more deserving of my time. The course isn't as spread out as it needs to be as fairways are directly next to each other. Tee signs are old and fairly hard to determine exactly where the basket is from just the sign alone. Having never been here before and being able to see multiple tee pads from each basket I found it extremely hard to navigate tee to tee.

A bit of a let down 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 5, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Wide open so there's very little chance of loosing discs. Fairly easy to play. Good if you want chances to really let some drives loose.

Cons:

Always busy, grass isn't cut often enough, some shady people there at times. Not very challenging. If you can thrown straight, you can shoot under par

Other Thoughts:

I heard tons of people raving about this course. After playing it, I have to say overall it was a real let down. It's not a bad course by any means. Most my issues are with the neighborhood and some of the people that play here. For the most part everyone is nice. But this is also the course where I have encountered the most rude and shady people compared to other courses. This is a course I'd play early in the morning when it's empty. Some say this is the best course in Dayton. To me, that title goes to either Fairborn or Sycamore

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jul 3, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

-Great layout and great space between fairways
-a lot of changes in distance and shot selection through out the course
-the mature tress and the rolling terrain are what really set this course off
-good signage (though old)
-great amount of benches and trash cans
-this course may not be a pro level course but it makes you pay for poorly placed shots off the tee

Cons:

-basket and tee pads are getting old. Though I would call them functional obsolete
-course can be a little crowded at times so pace can be a little slower and if you have a errant tee shot be prepared to yell.
-some of the trashcans are not emptied regularly

Other Thoughts:

All in all this this course (in my opinion) is the brass standard for the area. HAH and Buck Creek are a close second but I can not go to Belmont, play a round and have a bad time. Such a great community of golfers in the Dayton/Springfield area and it shows bright at Belmont.

Sneaky Good Belmont Still Holds Up 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 5, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

A Dayton classic that has aged well in its many years, Belmont Park maximizes exciting elevation changes to deliver a sneakily fun round. The variety and number of these elevation changes dominate the design, and it's easy to see why. You'll play both up and down the rolling terrain, sometimes on the same hole. For example, Hole #9 (one of my favorites) undulates over a small valley and up a small ridge, with the basket located on the start of a downward slope beyond. A long enough drive will clear the valley, but leave it short and your next shot will play up enough to significantly alter your shot. Even if you clear the valley, you have to adjust for the ridge while simultaneously avoiding overshooting the basket and rolling your disc into the road. It may seem simple, but it turns what might be an otherwise ho-hum hole into a stealthy classic. Examples of this kind of subtle yet thoughtfully considered design are evident throughout the course (see also #3, #7, and #10 to name a few).

A lack of rough means it's nearly impossible to lose a disc. I like leaving with the same amount of plastic I came in with.

Concrete teepads can be found on all holes in varying (but mostly positive) states of repair. Some holes feature a short and a long teepad.

The baskets are older, but still catch pretty well. UPDATE 5/29/18: The old baskets were replaced by new DD Veterans in November 2017 thanks to Hazy Shade.

Cons:

Belmont is arguably the center of Dayton disc golf, and as a result it can get very crowded on nice days with serious players and casuals alike. Coupled with the openness of the course, it's easy to delay multiple groups with a single bad throw. If you come here on a late spring or summer day when the weather is nice, it's not uncommon to wait behind a group of a half-dozen chuckers.

Aesthetically, Belmont isn't very attractive and occasionally has a bit of a trash and graffiti problem. While no means out of control, it doesn't do the already uninspiring atmosphere and views any favors.

A lack of rough means it's easy to get back in shape when your shot goes awry. This may be a negative for some looking for creative recoveries and punishment for errant shots.

Hole #1 throws toward the parking lot, so as you enter it's a good idea to park on the left side of the lot if possible. UPDATE 5/29/18: Hole 1 has swapped its numbering with Hole 19.

Other Thoughts:

Belmont Park is deceptive at first glance, as it's open and not very pretty or scenic. However, any mixed feelings at the beginning of the round usually melt away by the time you get to 18's spectacular downhill drive. This is a cleverly designed, elevation-based course that you may not remember forever, but will have you coming away with the satisfaction of a fun round played.

PROTIPS: Hole 19 is located on the other side of the parking lot from the rest of the course. There's no sign, but the concrete pad plays to the basket by the maintenance sheds. UPDATE 5/29/18: Hole 19 is now Hole 1 and sports full course signage.

Stop by The Hazy Shade, the local disc emporium (723 Watervliet Ave) for good prices on a wide selection of discs. Friendly and knowledgeable staff are a delight to talk to and always happy to help. NOTE: I'm not affiliated with the store in any way, I just spend way too much money there!

Solid course in a quiet middle American town 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Relatively open, solidly designed course traverses the perimeter of what looked to be a well maintained city park that sees a fair amount of traffic.
• Makes great use of available elements. Rolling terrain is a factor on the majority of holes to make them play longer/shorter than posted or bump up risk/reward on pin placements. Only sparsely wooded, but tees and pins are placed well to maximize the property's potential.
• Fairly good mix of distances, with a few holes you can open up on, (especially if you play from the long tees and the pins are in the long position), but still provides Ace Runs and plenty of birdie opportunities.
• Fairly open design allows for many different lines to the pin, encouraging some degree of decision making and line shaping (but not much). Every hole has at least a small potential to cost you a stroke, some more than others.
• Most of the dual tees created at least reasonably different looks at the pin. Rotating baskets through two pin positions provides 4 possible layouts to help locals from getting bored over time.
• Two practice baskets across the parking lot from 1st hole.
• Equipment's showing its age, but still quite serviceable. Tee markers aid navigation and distances seemed accurate. Routing was a bit confusing in few spots - not much of a problem on the whole, but glad I printed the map. Tees and baskets were a non-issue. Trash cans and benches placed frequently enough around the course.
• No underbrush to speak of, essentially no chance of disc loss.
• Makes good use of the sections of the park I doubt would see much use otherwise. Trying not to seem biased, I think tees and baskets generate more traffic here than picnic tables and grills would have. I don't see what else they could have done in these sections of the park that would have served the community any better.

Cons:

Most of the cons are limitations imposed by the landscape, but nothing major really.
• Doesn't require a well-rounded shot making repertoire. I like at least a few holes that force you to execute a particular line to score well... "Here it is... can you do it?" Although you can throw all sorts of shots here, none of the holes challenge you in that manner. You can do OK here with only one or two types of shots in your bag.
• Often no penalty (or very little) for errant tee shots. Missing your line (even badly) need not cost you a stroke.
• Plays close to backyards and roads in some spots - possibility of wind-blown discs making it into traffic or a backyard.
• Some holes play close to each other with no barriers between them. If there are others around, be ready to yell "Fore!" or alert for others to do the same.

Other Thoughts:

More fun than it is challenging, Belmont's well worth playing if you're in the area, but not worth going out of your way for. I can see why locals love it (with good reason): it's a fun, friendly round, looks to be aging nicely, allows you to play several layouts and try out all kinds of shots. It's a good city-park course that's reasonably well executed, does what it does well, but it's not unlike many others I've played.

Very well suited to beginners and intermediate players alike, it's a wonderful place for newbs to learn the following aspects of the game without fear of losing discs:
• Shot shaping
• How elevation affects effective hole length.
• Evaluating whether to lay-up or run the pin on putts and approaches.
• How wind affects your shots (open layout means light breezes have plenty of time to work on your disc).

Does quite well with the palette the designers were given, has obviously stood the test of time and appears to get a decent amount of traffic.

Had the course played flat for the vast majority of the holes, I'd have pegged it as "decent/typical," but the wonderfully rolling terrain enhances it enough to merit a higher rating. No glaring deficiencies jump out at you, but with no truly distinguishing features to warrant the label of "very good," I have to say this course fits quite solidly in the "good" category, hence a rating of 3.0 seems well deserved.

Looks like locals have made a "19th" (and possibly a 20th) hole using the practice baskets.

Lots of length, and elevation, the pins move around every six weeks or so....
Has a neat 5 way tee pad area in the center, they should put a roof/shelter over it, that would be cool

Cons:

Its wide open, so it easy to score under if your throwing bombs and eating chains for breakfast
You are in the suburbs and only a little privacy offered

it could use more holes and certainly more trees, a pond or two can never hurt a disc golf course

Well laid out and well maintained.
Little chance of losing your discs, so introducing friends to the sport is incredibly easy at this course.
Many of the holes have different basket locations, that are moved often (by Dayton Disc Golf Assoc. I believe) for variability.

Cons:

Somewhat simple for an advanced player.
It is always windy here for one reason or another.

Other Thoughts:

There is a local league that plays a random draw doubles round for about $7 (non-league member cost). It is a great way to meet people and play competitively.

IF YOU VISIT THIS COURSE, make sure to go check out the Hazy Shade disc golf shop (less than 1 mile away). They are a knowledgeable staff and love the sport.

A Course with Character 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:May 19, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Belmont is an established and heavily played park style course that appeals to longer arms (typically Intermediate and above), with opportunities to bomb 490' downhill through mature trees on hole 11 and up to 607' across the open soccer field on hole 16. There are a few shorter deuce opportunities for us weaker arms, and a number of baskets are well-guarded by the trees and branches near the 'greens', but overall, this course reminds me a little bit of Lover's Lane in Bowling Green, Kentucky, but with more rolling elevation and more park trees to force you to choose lines. There are opportunities to go left, right, long and sometimes blind, but the character of the park makes Belmont a little special:

The flow of the course creates a couple of opportunities to socialize, like at 'the hub', where the tees for 6, 9 & 11 all join together near a picnic table and an elevated bench, so there will usually be a friend or two swinging by to trash talk you when you 'mismanage' a release. Most tees have a log for a bench, but a few have outdoor furniture, and all have trash barrels (usually painted in a unique manner), that give this place a semi-urban character. There's even an Ace Hole (Clubhouse? Annex for the Hazy Shade DG Store?) right by the #4 basket.

The tees are all level, concrete, and large enough for the distances involved. The DGA baskets catch well, despite beginning to show their age. There are multiple pin positions on many holes, and a couple of places where there are alternate tees. A friendly local told me they often get creative with the layout here for bigger (!) arm tournaments, like driving from the long tee on #12 to the 'nipple' (the raised basket on 14). I saw and played a 19th hole on the other side of the parking lot, and saw yet another basket over there, which I think would be preferable to the official practice basket.

Cons:

The practice basket is really beat up and rusty, there is only a bathroom if someone has unlocked it at the shelter left of the parking lot (so some of the larger bushes become stand-inside latrines), and the signage, while decently showing major elements, distances, and mandos, don't always help the newcomer determine where the next tee is. I used a map and asked questions the two times I've been here.

The course is relatively well located, and easily accessible from the major roads through Dayton, but there is no park sign: you feel like you're driving into the parking lot from the servant's entrance to the park (and maybe you are?). On the positive side, this just lends another layer to the feeling that Belmont is kind of a "boy's club" course.

Other Thoughts:

The infrastructure here has some really neat elements, like the large wooden slabs used as stairs up the hill to #11, and they've done a really nice job extending teepads that needed it.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Oct 8, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Belmont Park seems to be a popular course and I see why, the fun factor is pretty high here. The course is semi open with large mature trees and rolling hills so there are elevation changes on many of the holes. There is a decent shot variety with a few holes forcing a turnover shot for RHBH players and the mature trees sometimes give multiple routes to throw to the basket. There is an excellent variety of hole distances ranging from the low 200's to 600 feet with most holes in the 200-350 foot range. A few of the longer holes are downhill so they can still be reached by for someone with decent distance. The course is a little on the open side, but there are enough mature trees and elevation changes to keep you thinking about every shot.

There are concrete tee pads, tee signs that list the hole distance and a practice basket by the parking lot. Navigation is pretty easy once you get started, although the walk from 11 to 12 can be a little tough your first time.

Cons:

The tee signs are looking a bit faded, but still get the job done. The practice basket is in terrible condition, but it's better than nothing. The baskets are starting to show their age.

There are mature trees on every hole and no hole is completely wide open, but there is rarely trouble off the tee so bad shots are not punished. This makes getting par quite easy on every hole even with a bad first shot.

The parking lot comes into play on hole one which is a bit of a safety concern, but the rest of the course seems to be away from the surrounding roads and fences. Some of the baskets seem a bit close to other fairways in a few spots so keep an eye out for other golfers.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this is a great course that caters to a wide variety of players. Newer players will especially like that there is no underbrush so the chance of losing a disc is minimal.

I really enjoyed playing this course, traversing the holes and navigating the trees. The course is excellent for newer players. For a more advanced player, the course is a bit on the open side.

Pros:

18 Hole course in Dayton, very open has some long shots too for good drives. Easy to understand tees.

Cons:

always older guys sitting in chairs in the parking lot, gives the park a bad mood i think, all shots are open, no wood shots, have to keep going up to the mound for a few holes. A long walk for some. Needs new and betters tee signs if you ask me.

Other Thoughts:

A popular course in Dayton, this older course is love it or hate it.

Fun course! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 11, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Lots of different throws required. There's trees on most of the holes but if you throw it right, you should be able to get around them. The holes that don't have trees are mostly wide open. Most holes have info at the tees on distance and where the basket should be. Concrete tee pads.

Cons:

Baskets are not great. Old, rusty, and not marked well. It's really hard to find them if you've never played here before.

Other Thoughts:

There's a pro shop on hole 4 that was a house that someone bought. Pretty cool!

History in the backyard 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 27, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Dayton has a number of courses in the area, but Belmont is by far the most popular. This is an older course, and some of the history is lost on me, but it has aged well. There are numerous trees, but the course still feels very open.

The course reaches into the longer holes on the second nine including a three downhill bombers (11, 16, and 18) and there are very few simple RHBH hyzer holes (1, 3, 6, 8, 10, and 14 are the ones to just throw and fade). There are a number of different lines on the course and could even lead to some interesting mandos.

Belmont is located just down the street from the local store Hazy Shade, who are very active in the Dayton disc golf scene as well. The park itself has no water and plenty of space for throwing in fields.

Cons:

Because of it's popularity and location in the city, a lot of the casual drunks and smokers like to play Belmont, which isn't a problem until they smash glass bottles near tee pads and leave cigarette butts everywhere. The local regulars, and city police have been trying to improve the course after the possibility of losing the course has come up.

Other Thoughts:

The course has aged well, but there are are shorter holes than the more modern courses. The three downhill bombers help off set the short course feeling though.

There are rumored to be undercover police around recently to help clean up the park, so don't brink your beer.

Park on the left side of the parking lot, the first fairway goes along the right side of the lot and the best shot is a RHBH down that edge of the lot.

Pros:

Variety of shots and terrain.
Nice pleasant home course.
It's dang near impossible to lose a disc here.
Friendly players frequent this park.
"Hippy Shack" near hole 3 !
Awesome course overall!
Hole 19 Added! and an extra practice basket!

Cons:

Some of the fairways are right next to each other. (Nothing major just keep it tight)

Other Thoughts:

The course gives a certain "comfortable home" feeling. The locals here work very hard to maintain a very nice local course. Thanks to all that help out. Also it is very close to the local disc shop!
