fun little course
Pros: The fact that Tribune, KS even has a course is a positive in my book. The course itself is located in a small park and makes great use of the trees and slight elevation changes that are found there. Don't let the fact that there are only six baskets deter you from playing this course, as you can safari it and come up with countless lines that will prove challenging for even the advanced player. Depending upon your creativity, the fun factor here can be very high. For beginners, this is a great place to work on approach shots.
Cons: The first obvious drawback is that there was no map that gave an indication of the layout of the course. We basically made up our own holes. At one point in time, there had to have been a layout for the course, as we found maybe 8 wood tee markers in the ground. The markers were marked with a hole number and an arrow pointing to the basket to be thrown at. The baskets themselves were not the best, as they were homemade and appeared to be something MacGyver would have created. Rope, bailing wire, radiator hose clamps, it was all there. More than once we had discs go through the chains, or even fall out the bottom of the basket. However, I feel the biggest con for this course is that if anybody is using the park, you will not be able to play. Too many of the baskets are close to playground equipment or picnic tables. We were fortunate that we had the park to ourselves and didn't have to worry about plunking any pedestrians in the head.
Other Thoughts: For the most part, an average player can get by with just a midrange and putter at this course. I really enjoyed this course and the fact that we could have so much fun looking for different lines to throw. Part of the fun was trying to find a unique line. Obviously, many people don't travel to Tribune, but if you are passing through, this is a great place to stop and throw. I know if I pass through town again, I will definitely stop and stretch my legs at the Jackrabbit Disc Golf Course.
