Buffalo Bayou Course
Pros: Unique park with cool elevation shots and downtown in the background. 2 sets of tees make for some different looks and overall has the feel of a solid 18 holer.
Overview of the regular tees:
Hole 1 is a nice straight/anny throwing off a hill onto another hill
Hole 2 throws pretty much straight to a cool basket placement off the edge of the far slope.
Hole 3 is tough but fair placement shot with your mid or fairway driver, need to land accurately on the side of a hill for the deuce
Hole 4 shoots to a basket tucked behind a strategic group of trees
Hole 5 option anny or big hyzer, basket has a risk/reward placement near the bayou edge
Hole 6 can be approached several ways as some may choose to layup, and the more advanced players can shoot the gap or take the huge hyzer over the top
Hole 7 is a cool putter/mid drive, skip too far left and end up with a tough birdie putt
Hole 8 hyzer or anhyzer option, basket on the slope, good driver hole
Hole 9 very risky basket placement if you go for the deuce, scenic shot with downtown in the background
Cons: Would be nice if this course was expanded to 18 or 21 holes. The course is somewhat cramped into the space provided but the design makes the best of whats available. Can be some pedestrian traffic on a busy day.
Other Thoughts: I give this course a 4 rating because it has some of the best terrain and golf lines in Houston. As many have said, a possible expansion could easily bump this course up to a 4.5 rating.

Green River Goodness
Pros: The Jim Mazola Bayou course does a lot with a little. The overall ground area is not large, but the course design makes effective use of some elevation changes, water, trees and even a man-made bike shelter. The grass tees are in pretty good shape, as are the baskets. Each hole has its own feel and will challenge the average player in a unique way. Length also varies from one hole to the next. Some drives demand strength and distance, while others require a strategic mid-range shot to get around a corner or over a hill. When the park isn't too busy, it's a very fun course to play, even twice. It can be played in about 30 minutes solo. Drinking fountains are available at the skate park.
Cons: Hole 1 is difficult to find from the main street-side parking area on Sabine St. There are only short, hard-to-see, unmarked wooden posts at each tee, rather than informational signs. The baskets are only numbered with stickers on the inner posts, so if you're a first-timer, you're not always sure you're in the right spot. A course map would definitely keep a beginner from backtracking to find the right tee and/or basket. As some other reviewers said, it's easy to lose a disc in the wide, deep, muddy bayou creek. Be mindful that a rolling disc on several of the holes could be headed for the murky sludge if you don't hurry to stop it! The park can get pretty busy with bikers, kids, skaters and general public, which gets in the way of disc golf.
Other Thoughts: This is an excellent, diverse, fun disc golf course with eye-widening views of the downtown Houston skyline, a small creek, wooded areas, and the large bayou creek in the middle. Plan your visit according to the ebb and flow of general park traffic. Alternate tees can be found by colored bricks in the ground, but you'll have to be looking for them.

used to hate - now its great!
Pros: Urban DG Oasis. Great scenery. TOUGH water hazards, plenty of challenges throughout. Very close to my home and work.
Cons: So many lost discs....
People on the paths and near the skatepark. Used to be sooo quiet out there before all the skaterlaterdudes moved in. Homeless on occasion but they cool.
Other Thoughts: My home course simply based on geography although we dont play here as often as we used to. The old hole 1 was a great starter but the skatepark took over and desecrated what WAS a memoral to a champion of DG and a fine man. Maybe they will make this course 18 holes to make up for it? one can hope that someone they will (Throw over the bayou maybe??) please?
