_________________________________________________

Design: This course is essentially designed with Gusty Wind and OB as the major design elements. I live in the hills, and this is actually a pretty fun style course for me as it is so different. Favorite hole was probably hole 2 because I like par 4s and 5s. Keeping in the fairway and not OB early is paramount.

Tees: Conrad approved. Tees are so big that I had to choke up the tee as not to throw off my routine. Many tees had benches as well. Only thing missing is some sort aesthetics. This is where the sport is heading.

Baskets: Not to mince words. These things suck. Believe they are Mach 3s. Totally inappropriate for an A tier to have 30 year old baskets. I mean they weren't in disrepair by any means. They just don't catch well when the wind isn't blowing, let alone at 30mph winds. These baskets just need moved to a different course.. and upgraded to anything championship caliber.

Amenities/signage: Course has a large shelter at hole 1 area. Very much appreciated for storms and player meetings. Otherwise, the teesigns are appropriate, but could be upgraded to something more modern. No next tee signs to be found, although the course flow is fairly common sense. There is a Scotty Potty i think near Hole 15 area.

Fun Factor: If you like throwing your arm off, OB, and wind... this is the place for you. I enjoyed myself, and this was my favorite course of the weekend.

Cons:

See above.

Other Thoughts:

This is probably one of the more championship caliber courses in town. A few upgrades such as tee signs and upgrading to baskets made in the 21st century... and this place is much closer to 3.75.

Overall, I had a good time and would play here again. I just don't see it as super road trip worthy like Holler right down the road.

Thanks to the local club for taking care of all of these courses. It must be exhausting!

Long. ob. open. fun. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2019 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Very well maintained- good mow, benches, trash cans, tee signs, clean, good tee pads and baskets.Challenging and fair- long holes with clearly marked ob- paths mostly on the sides or just past baskets. No river ob. Trees force some lines but there are always multiple options. Easy to play- elevation change is subtle and used expertly. Very easy to walk. Easy to avoid people using the walking path which is the only other park amenity on the course. Parking is next to pavilion, practice basket, hole one and 18. Easy to navigate.

Cons:

Does not wrap at end of hole 9. - this is one you need to be ready for as it plays continuously back into the property and does not come back to the lot after hole 3 until hole 18. Not incredibly technical. - it really is very open, kind of golf course style. The ob and still young trees do help though. Not beginner friendly- with only one pad and basket per hole, this is definitely an intermediate to advanced course. Even playing w/o OB is sure to be a tough play for anyone without 350-400ft driving pretty accurately. But once you hit that point, man is it a fun challenge.

Other Thoughts:

This course is getting better and better with good grounds keeping and age of tree induced challenges. Tee pads are slippery when wet. I suggest playing to one side or the other during rain. Play by yourself in 2hrs or less. Located just outside of town, it is a nice reprieve from the busy city courses without having to drive too far.

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 12, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course is in good shape -- the tees are large, concrete, in great shape. The baskets are in good condition. The grass gets mowed. The park seems generally well maintained. There is plenty of parking.

Hole 11 is a pretty unique hole, with a sharp mando right corner to a basket tucked into some trees with OB behind.

Cons:

Do you like throwing in a big flat windy open field? To make it more challenging, they threw in lots of OB.

The course is repetitive -- there are only a few holes which had interesting shapes, or basically any obstacles other than OB and wind. Many fairways are also too close given the windy conditions -- drives easily land in adjacent fairways.

The course just isn't fun -- it's long and exposed, so you'll be tired by the end. But it's repetitive enough that the holes will blur together in your head before you're out of the parking lot.

Other Thoughts:

The course designers did the best they could with this land -- It's just not well suited to disc golf.

Best in BG 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2013 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is the best course that BG has to offer, plenty of distance with OBs to keep you honest. Beautiful park setting and the grass seems to be mowed quite frequently. A lot of new trees to tighten up the longer holes, great tee signs, benches and trash cans on every hole. It truly separates the good from the great in every division. #11 and 15 are legit par 4s that big arms can easily 3, and a lot of holes in the 370-450 range that you can really air it out on.

Cons:

Hole #6 is kind of a Tweener hole, not many 2s or 4s, just a straight wide open 540' hole. If you're a noob who can only throw 200'... You're not going to have a good time

Don't get the complaints... 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 26, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Long open holes that still require a good bit of control if you play by the OB rules, and especially if the wind is blowing.

Solid good sized teepads allow big runups for those with the arm to take full advantage.

Yes the course is open, and probably not much fun in the dead of summer, but when the wind is blowing this course is nice and cool, and between the wind and the OB there's plenty of challenge to keep you from just bombing away hole after hole.

Cons:

Open and long, this course would be rough on a hot, still summer day.

Plenty of people around, but for the most part they were aware of disc golf and moved out of the way quickly.

A second set of tees would be nice.

Other Thoughts:

I really don't understand people grumbling about this course being to simple. I simply didn't play it on calm days, and had no issue. Playing by the tourney OB rules and on windy days made for a challenging experience that allowed me to hone a specific aspect of my game.

Many young trees have been planted, and 10 years or so from now this course will have an entirely new and improved look.

Don't see the problem 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 8, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Huge teepads, which are needed for such long holes. There were some very cool holes; 9, 11, and 18 are the ones that come to mind. I had never played a bunker hole before, so 18 was really cool. I have never seen a hole like 11 before and it was fun. Also, everyone says it's open and boring and that throwing in between 2 paths isn't disc golf, but that's this course's trees. The land it was built on isn't wooded, so they tried to keep it from being really boring and open and brought in the OB's. if all the spots that were OB were a line of trees instead, they would be called great holes, with a great mix of open and wooded holes. To me, none of the holes are the same, all the ones that are close to the same length are either uphill or downhill, so they change the shot and distance. Also, the few trees that are out there can cause a change in shot shape, or at least make the same shot more difficult. It wasn't as boring as the reviews make it sound. Plus the benches at every hole were nice.

Cons:

Don't really have many. I would like a couple of wooded holes, but it wasn't bad without them. (Read title)

Other Thoughts:

The people in the walking trail only made us wait a couple of times, but we just sat at the bench behind the teebox, waited 15 seconds for them to leave, then went on and threw. The course is probably the most challenging open course you will ever play. Go OB once and you're looking at an up and down for bogey or a double if you mess up. But that's what keeps it from being boring. That's this course's character (and the wind apparently, but it was calm when I played). That's what it's all about, and if you don't like it then that's too bad.

Blowing Green’s Windy City 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

At 7240 feet, the DG course at Ephram White is actually the longest in Bowling Green (by a few feet over Phil Moore), and is renowned for its OB paths and usually windy conditions. It is a big arm paradise, and a noddle arm purgatory, with three holes over 425 feet, two over 560, one at 605, and one at 740. Did I mention there's usually a walking path on either side of you, or just beyond the basket, that's played as OB in tournaments? Heck, you can see a sign by the second tee that says "2 Miles" !! ; )

Fortunately, this open field, ball golf feeling course has some of the biggest tee pads in the universe, with added gravel on all sides to make '360' approaches possible. Every hole has a bench well back of your run-up, and newer, highly informative signage. The fields are well maintained, and the few trees you need to navigate are coming in nicely. It may even have some shade in a couple of decades. The ball golf feel culminates with actual sand 'bunkers' surrounding the 18th basket.

Used by the thriving local DG club for weekly doubles and big tournaments (such as the annual BG ams, which hosts well over 600 players every spring), White has its admirers and its detractors. Scores can vary widely depending on whether it's calm or windy here in the back of the large, multi-use park. There are a few other memorable holes that stand out here, such as the shortest (hole nine), that allows lower level players like me to grab a rare deuce, followed by the L-shaped hole 11 that takes you 420' to the right around a mando corner, into a grove of mature trees, with a couple of path OB's to avoid. There are some holes that roll up and down the gentle elevation, making more deuces possible for Rec level arms on the ones that are shorter than a football field in length. The baskets are nice, and catch reliably if you can compensate for the putt-lifting (or -dropping) breezes.

Cons:

The lack of variety can get monotonous for about half the holes here, and if the weather is good, you may have to wait for folks to pass across a number of the pathways that crisscross the course. You'll need to bring your best overstable stuff out here on windier days if you want to approach par on White. I know for a fact that the tournament OB's here frustrate the heck out of most Rec level players.

Other Thoughts:

While the flow of the design is straightforward, and White offers a real contrast to most of the courses in the Bowling Green area, I'm not sure I'd have played this course the couple of times I have if it weren't for it being included in the big tournament. They did fine designing a course here with the space available, but there are so many more interesting courses in the region...

Boring 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 1, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

The course has benches which were not present at most of the other BG courses that I played.

The tee-pads are Huge to allow for a big run-up on the long holes for those wanting to air it out.

The course is well manicured and can be a very beautiful course to play

Cons:

This course almost requires no finesse. Just throw as hard as you can for the most part. It's wide open and forgiving in most places.

The holes with OB can force you to throw with some accuracy but there are only 3-4 holes that I can think of where the OB really dictates your shot(1,2,3,10)

Other Thoughts:

This course has only one defense apparently and that is wind. When it's not blowing the course is boring and simple. There are less than 7 holes that I can say that I enjoyed on the entire course the rest were just bland and held little to no challenge.

Hole 11 was probably my favorite 400+ft dogleg with the basket tucked into a corner with probably the only mature trees on the course guarding it. Holes 1, 3, 10, 14, 18 are the only ones that have stuck in my mind at all. The rest of this course is very forgettable.

If you are in the Bowling Green area and have the option of playing other courses that would be a wise choice unless you are just wanting to play them all.

Overall this course was fun, The OB on this course a lot might see as a con but added to the course. This forced you to have good shots and keep the disc where you meant it to go. Several of the greens were amazing, hole 18 green very beautiful. Very well lanscaped.

Cons:

It is on the outside of town. Teepad get a little slick when wet.

But, keeping a disc between two imaginary lines is just not fun for me. I guess it would be a good course to work on your long drives, turnovers, etc.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 7, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

White Park is a long, open course where the wind is usually a factor. There is OB on many of the holes keeping it from favoring distance throwers. While they still have the advantage, the OB keeps them honest so an accurate player with less distance can still score well.

The front 9 is more open but the back gets more interesting and uses the available trees well. Holes 9-14 are the most interesting and use the available land and trees very well.

The tee pads are very large, there are benches at most of the holes and there's water at the pavilion by hole 1. This is much needed since there's almost no shade here.

Many of the baskets have small trees and shrubs around them to help keep the course interesting.

Navigating the course is a breeze and there are nice tee signs at every hole that list the distance and show the OB.

There are lots of small trees growing here so as they get bigger that will definitely help make the course more interesting.

Cons:

Like any mostly open course, the shot variety is lacking here.

The course is long, open and unshaded making it very hot in the summer.

By the end of the round the course starts to feel pretty repetitive due to the all the open holes.

Other Thoughts:

If you like long, open courses you'll enjoy playing here. If not, skip it.

Wide open spaces to let them fly 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Sep 10, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

White Park allows for plenty of long range shots, basically throw long to your heart's content. Playing with the running track as OB gives the course a little bit more challenge. Players able to throw around 340-350 will have numerous deuce chances. The trees planted during the installation of the course are starting to shape the holes, whereas you use to be able to just throw over the top of them. Given more time these trees will become even more a factor on this course. All holes have large grippy tee pads as well as benches on which to rest. Most have trash cans available. There are brand new tee signs that are adequate. Course is easy to follow with no large walks in between holes and with few places where you have to watch for errant discs from other holes. As previously said in other reviews, number 18 provides an interesting twist in sand traps surrounding the green. This feature makes a normally 300 foot hole more difficult.

Cons:

Players with less distance can find the repetitiveness of long shot after long shot a disadvantage. The parks department tends to let the grass grow up a bit before mowing so don't be surprised to be looking for a disc in over ankles' height grass. I wouldn't count it necessarily a Con but the wind can be a big factor out at White.

Other Thoughts:

White course provides a different kind of challenge than most all of the other Bowling Green courses. Course is usually fairly empty except for some runners/walkers around the track. Course will only get better with time as the trees grow larger and shape the character of each hole.

Long, open and windy 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 30, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

The course plays through a sprawling park with small rolling hills and a few scattered trees. There is nice grass throughout the park, and for an open course it's a pretty place to play. There are nice concrete pads and baskets in good shape that catch well. Many holes have tee signs, and the flow of the course is good enough that it's easy to follow and easy to see where to throw. There is some nice length here, with some good long ripper holes and a few reachable holes mixed in. The walking path running through the course can add some ob challenge, especially on a windy day. The sand traps on the last hole are fun, features like that throughout the course would have made it a little more interesting.

Cons:

The course is basically wide open, only a few holes have enough trees to make you even think about different lines. It's basically a bunch of open field hucks, which can be challenging to score well on due to wind and ob, but doesn't really test other parts of your game. It gets pretty boring and repetitive by the end of the round. The signage was in pretty bad shape and in need of an upgrade, with the whole back 9 missing signs. The walking path course be a safety issue if heavily used.

Other Thoughts:

This course is a good place to work on throwing distance shots, and playing the wind. Beginners will find it long and frustrating, while more experienced players won't find any challenges other than the distance and possibly the wind. It could be a great course as the trees mature, but that will take a while as most of the trees are still quite young.

Long and windy 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Apr 11, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Ephram White Park has a nice course and certainly lends itself to the diversity of courses in the Bowling Green area. In a way, it might remind you of a ball golf course with its defined fairways that are cut much shorter than the "rough" that borders. Eighteen with its bunkers and sand traps also help with the feeling. The walking paths, which are reminiscent of cart paths, run throughout the course too.

Speaking of paths, they help define the holes and offer a big difficulty in the way of OB's. Some run on both sides of the fairways, some on just one side and some that run behind. Some are narrower than others but you are all but guaranteed to go out at least once.

Although most holes are strait there is some gentle elevation changes that help with the diversity. There is a pretty even mix of slight uphill and downhill shots. Eleven's very pronounced hard dogleg to the right is what I considered my favorite hole. It is fairly open on the first half, takes the turn and leads into a comparatively tight wooded area with big mature trees. It's really beautiful. Beyond that there aren't many other wooded areas but you will find a few trees here and there to work around. Lots of newly planted ornamental, flowering, and shade trees are on their way to making this a fairly wooded area once the trees mature. This will not be the same course in 10-20 years. For now you will just have to enjoy the openness.

Don't let the openness fool you into thinking it's easy though. With everything mentioned above, this course is lengthier than a lot of the other courses in the area. Mix in some wind and you'll find a very challenging course. I should also mention that there is a couple of shorter holes with a great little ace run on hole nine that makes for a nice treat.

You'll find some nice big pads. They are at least 12' long and 5' wide. Every hole has benches and signs too. The layout is also very easy to follow.

Cons:

This course will be brutal in the summer with its lack of shade. Further, the course doesn't flow in a way to make it easy to get back to your car for water once you get going. Be prepared for that.

A time or two you may have to wait on random walkers on the trail.

Based on the type of course this is, and if you know what to expect, there really aren't that many cons. Wooded course fans might not be impressed. You may find it a little repetitive which can lead to burnout, especially if you are suffering from a particularly bad round.

Other Thoughts:

Overall the course is quite enjoyable. It has a pleasant atmosphere and the park is clean and safe. Out of all the courses in Bowling Green this was one that I am glad I played but would pick others if I had limited time. If you are a strong thrower you might enjoy it more than than those with average arms. If you like fairly open, long courses then this is the course for you. If not, just know what to expect when you visit and you can still have a good time. Go give it a try and enjoy!

Wide Open Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

This course was straight forward, there was no complication as to where you should go or what shots you should take. The grass was well manacured (fairways were cut very nice leaving a thick rough that really did penalize you for missing the fairway). Teepads were good size and concrete. There was a good use of OB which was nice because it made you work on control instead of wild distance. The holes were longer than most other courses but they weren't ridiculous.

Cons:

There is no cover there so the wind really just makes the course frustrating, you really have no clue when and which way the wind is blowing. Hole #11 was a little ridiculous in terms of playing it as a par 3 for a tournament. it was more that a 90 degree turn and the grass was fairly long taking away the opportunity for a tight roller. there was also a 700+ft hole, yes it was a long course but that would really make it difficult for a lot of players who want to play it for fun.

Other Thoughts:

no water or restrooms were near by. It was a visually appealing course especially with the trimmed fairways. It is a fun course be be prepared to take a rough score at anytime. I would suggest playing in the morning before the wind really picks up.

Beware of Wind 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 9, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

First of all this course is very, very, well designed. The course designer really took a long view at how this course will mature. At the moment it is not spectacular but given enough time (grow little trees grow!) it will be considered a highly rated course.

The out of bounds is well laid out and takes what appears to be somewhat easy holes and adds a whole new level of difficulty.

The Tee Pads are awesome. Wide and Long with a gravel apron.

This course also makes the most of what little elevation there is rarely providing a straight and level shot.

Very good use of the small amount of mature trees to hide and protect pins.

Mowed fairways that don't really reward you for a good shot but subconciously make you feel good about life.

The Wind. With a course this open the wind plays a huge factor adding considerably to the difficulty (if you are not used to wind).

The parks department. They do a great job maintaining this course. Mowing fairways, watering those little trees that are so important to the future of this course and keep the rest (non DG) of the park in great shape.

There benches at most if not all the tee's, plus garbage cans scattered thoughout. Nice little touches that always make a course better, like sand bunkers around #18's basket.

Cons:

This course does not have any huge cons. Until the tree's grow up a little this is not a very challenging course if you have a 400 ft drive in you.

The Wind. As stated above the wind is a pro for the course unless you are not used to playing in it and suprise I am not used to wind. It took me a few holes to figure out how play my drives.

The course is designed in and around a really amazing cross country running trail and walkers and runners can be very much in the way.

Other Thoughts:

Like I stated in the Pro section this course is planned for the future, and I am going to have to say that unless the BG Am championships use it again I will probably wait until the course matures before going out of my way to play this course again.

The park is great and there is a little disc golf store that just recently opened only about mile or so from the course that was neat to look through since they have a very good selection of used discs which is kind of rare around me.

The Dreaded White Park... 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 10, 2008 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

White Park has slight elevation, risk/reward, high winds, and uniquely designed fairways. For the property available - White Park may be one of my favorite course designs. Despite all of the wide open spaces it makes fantastic use of the trails to create risk/reward shots as a result of massive amounts of OB. Few of the holes alone are memorable but some of the stretches of holes, such as 2-3 back to back, is fantastic, and hole 10-11 is a fun mini-stretch. The few trees out there are also well placed, and with time will add to the challenge of the course.

Cons:

The high winds can be as much a con as they are a pro. In tournament play and in casual play - they can be aggravating. Expect wind when you hit this place. Hole 14 is also a con - thanks to the 2-meter rule the trees next to the pin placement create a true bail-out for bad drives. Out of the control of the course designers - the property itself. The course is well designed, but the property is not ready made for disc golf.

Other Thoughts:

This is probably the most dreaded of the courses played during the Bowling Green Amateurs. Few people look forward to hitting the course. Coming in with a 500 foot arm is advantageous, but it is a rare day that the winds are low enough to go way under par on the open course. More often than not having the arm to take risks means getting toyed with by the high winds and OB for 18 holes of frustration. If you can carve up the course with accurate placement and pick up the birdies on the short holes you can come away very happy.
