Impressive Laid-Back Vibe. 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 7, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

(3.154 Rating) A cherished Recreational course with a mix of wooded and park style plays.
- CHILL AREAS - The atmosphere here reminds me of some of my favorite stops. I loved the fact that there are large spacious well-built and welt designed benches on every hole. A great place to sit for a few minutes or to set a bag down briefly before moving on. Over by the practice basket there are some ornate crafted seats too. There are lots of little fun touches along this layout and it gives off the strong aroma of a well-loved course.
- BASICS AMENITIES AND EXTRAS - In addition to the benches, Pendleton King has just about all the fine things that are present on heavily played courses. Appropriately sized concrete tees and brand new Mach7s. About half of the holes have multiple basket placements and one even had two baskets in place. There are shelters with picnic tables, restroom facilities and I think I saw vending machines too.
- NAVIGATION AND SIGNAGE - I succeeded in navigating the course without a map until finishing (8). At this point I needed to consult my map twice, to make it to (9). The transition after (17) is odd too, but other than these two, the transitions are either intuitive or the next tee can be seen. The tee signs are newer, appealing and have all the required info on them. there's even a course map on each tee sign, but I didn't notice it until I re-looked at my photos. It would have also been nice to have a pin placement indicator on the tee sign.
- MODEST CHALLENGE - If you're looking for Pro and Advanced level game play, this course is not going to deliver. However, Intermediates, Recs and Novices are likely all going to be entertained. The course is mostly a wooded technical course, but my low 300s arm still reached for the driver several times. This course is going to play fair to a wide segment of player skills. It's the perfect blend of Rec level birdie chance fun factor crossed with some Intermediate level shot shaping.
- HOLE VARIETY - I have this scored slightly above average among all 9 and plus hole courses I've played. However, among 18-hole courses, Pendleton King would fall below average. Although I really liked the look and feel of the woods part of the course, but wow did it have a dejà vu feel to it on the tee. Holes (9) through (15) are all heavily wooded tunnels with marginal variations to them. The first five holes, hole (8) and the last three holes are all park style shots. Most of these play between 250 and 325 feet. On my play, there were two placements in par 4 locations. Plus, I think three more holes have a par 4 placement option.
- MAINTENANCE - I read a few older reviews that noted that the place was trashy. They either cleaned up their act or I got lucky and arrived right after a work day. The grounds were in immaculate shape.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - 51 percentile in my books. The best aspect for me was the maintained grounds as noted above, but also there are some pleasing looks on the wooded holes. Hole (18) to finish was rather striking with all the groomed vegetation and plush grass. A nice way to finish and it was personally my favorite hole. Several holes do however have lots of manmade objects in view and there some erosion problems bringing my overall score back a touch.

Cons:

It's hard to come up with any substantial complaints.
- CHALLENGE INTENSITY - As alluded to in my modest challenge pro, the challenges presented here are not jaw dropping. Even par I'm guessing would draw about an 890 rated round. Advanced players who throw bombs likely won't like this course as they won't be able to air their discs past the competition to victory.
- TIME WAITING - It doesn't take a genius to realize that this is a popular course. I played in the early afternoon on a week day and their were several groups on the course. I would expect to wait often on prime times. In addition, the layout plays along walking paths and other park amenities. I could see situations where a hole may need to be skipped due to other park patron's oblivious nature.

Other Thoughts:

Arguably one of the most infamous courses on DGCR. It strikes all the right chords to be a local favorite in any city by seamlessly blending fun factor with a touch of challenge and variety. It should produce a great experience for locals time and time again. All stated, Pendleton King lacks the dynamic land quality and size to challenge the top courses in the state. I've played 17 of the top 25 Georgia courses listed on DGCR as of this review and I'd rank this one at the bottom of those 17. Still a good course in its own right and worthy of a play if staying or traveling threw Augusta with limited spare time. Travelers looking for the best area courses should all be headed over to IDGC, unless they are a beginner.
- TIME PLAY - 60 minutes for this solo during non-peak hours.

Debating if I should use a “clean and friendly” cliché 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 6, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

If I knew nothing about the course from this site, I wouldn't have thought anything out of the ordinary of this just being a pretty standard city park course. Playing here, you would never expect it to be the culprit of long-standing DGCR controversy. Clearly though, people do love this course. I was excited to get out early on a Sunday morning and have it all to myself. Nope. There were already multiple groups playing at 9 AM. The amount of people most definitely can be a con I'm sure, but it's worth mentioning here because it confirms how well liked this place is by locals.

The course and starting hole are well marked, there is plenty of parking, and it winds back near the parking lot in the middle of the round.

There is a nice mix of park-style holes that navigate through a few trees and tighter shots in the woods. This variability to me is the course's greatest strength.

Cons:

The holes make good use of the land given, but there's nothing too exciting here. It reminds me of a lot of standard park courses.

The woods holes are pretty straight forward with a lot of simple, straight shots. They offer nice variety to the more open holes, but aren't anything too exciting.

Like I said, a lot of people were on the course and in the park in general for an early Sunday morning. I'm sure some holes become unplayable at times given that many play near other park areas, sidewalks, and the park road.

I'm not sure how bad the neighborhood itself is or not, but the park itself feels a little bit "rougher". Some tee signs have been vandalized or simply aren't there. The course had a good bit of litter on it as well.

Other Thoughts:

I wonder if the course hit its peak a few years ago and got a little rough around the edges, or if it's always been the case. This is the most notorious course in America that's just a simple park course, but I'm glad I got to play here given the history of its fun controversy. It's pretty standard without too many design flaws, which is why I came to the rating I did.

Apart from the crowds, it's a quick round and a nice compliment if you're in the area playing at the IDGC.

Solid park course with variety 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Mar 11, 2017 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

I had the opportunity to play PK in the first PK Open tournament. The course was arranged in the super-long configuration... and it was a treat! The entire course is situated throughout a city park that mixes both the open areas and wooded corridors. The open holes wrapped around the parking and ball field areas, but they were far enough from the parking lot where you didn't really have to worry about striking a car with a bad drive. Hole 4 took us through the back of the park and hole 5 had us drive across the lake back up to the pavilion. The rest of the course was weaving throughout the woods on well defined and sandy fairways. None of the holes were really straight, which kept everything interesting. Hole 17 and 18 brought us back around to the pavilion from the other direction.

There was lots a parking available and restrooms on site. Signage was great, and each tee wasn't hard to find from the previous basket. In the woods, there was some serious unexpected elevation to contend with... but it was fun!

I'm sure the normal, shorter layout is a little friendlier for the newer players... but I had a blast on the long course. They did a really good job utilizing all of the park for this. This place is a great course to play if you're in the area!

Cons:

Being a city park, there are people everywhere. Some of them know that there is a disc golf course, some obviously don't. Also there is lots of blind OB lining the sides of the fairways. Between gardens, yards, paths, dog parks, parking lots, and even a cemetery... it's a tricky course!

Other Thoughts:

I'm definitely going to play this course again when I'm in the area. The super-long configuration was a blast, so I'm sure the normal park layout will be good as well. Hole 1 starts near the entrance of the park. Watch out for kids and have a great round!

Decent course - just wish it was somewhere else 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 16, 2016 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Even mix of right and left turns.
Multiple pins which can act as par 3s or 4s for added difficulty.
Good, solid tee pads.
Benches on every hole.
The final hole in particular is one that I've always enjoyed.

Cons:

Location! This course is in the ghetto, for lack of a better term. There was an incredibly loud, obnoxious, probably drunk group of at least a dozen people hanging out at the picnic tables right next to the first fairway. An errant disc could easily cause a fight.
The second hole's fairway runs next to a couple of playgrounds and a 5-6 year old girl tried to run off with my friend's disc.
The signage here looks good stylistically and there's plenty of information on them, but they are incredibly hard to see unless you walk right up to them.
The first few holes and a couple in the middle run through other park amenities and you may run into pedestrian walkways or roads that you have to throw over.
Aesthetically dilapidated throughout the course. Some of the infrastructure here should just be torn down and replaced with grass if it's not going to be repaired. I also saw tons of trash littering the middle 6 holes that are a bit further back in the park. There were trashcans throughout the course, just inconsiderate people I guess.

Other Thoughts:

I like the way this course plays. I visit Augusta often to play the IDGC courses, but I like to introduce people to the sport with this course since its pretty simple. My main issue with it is it's location. It probably wouldn't be an issue at 8:00 in the morning but if you're going to play this course at 4:00-5:00 in the afternoon, be prepared to deal with loud, obnoxious people and beer toting teenagers walking through your fairways (I swear I'm not an old man).
There were several shots, especially on the front nine, where I legitimately thought my disc might be stolen and so I basically rushed through these holes to get away from all the other park guests.

I don't think I would play this course again unless it was very early in the morning when you're less likely to encounter the other park goers.

Pros:

Tee pads are of a good sizes with pavers at the end of pad

Benches on everyhole

Multiple pins in ground in most holes.

Great use of area around park.

Many holes that stand out as signature holes

Cons:

I love the idea of the wooden tee signs and the extra art work that's on them. However I found them to be a little hard to read without being right up close.

Wish the water came into play. I understand in years past it did but not anymore.

Other Thoughts:

What a great course. Starts you out on a nice left to right hole with lanes on bothsides for an easy birdy. After that the course starts to challenge you some and also reward you with a short hole or two mixed in.

Plenty of shade throughout the course and tucking you away from many of the parkgoers as you make the turn into the back nine.

Hole 18 is a standout in my mind with all the extra touches from the landscaped bushes and flower boxes on backside of the pin.

If this was closer to the house then 2.5 hour drive I def. could see myself making this a home course. Easily could play two rounds with both rounds being different basket combos.

Great Fun Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 18, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice park. Great course for beginners and Advanced alike. Lots of different shots and subtle terrain changes. My fav. course in Augusta. Often lots of people to pick up a game with.

Cons:

Hole 2 is near a play ground. Not in the way but can be a distraction. Not much they can do about it, but almost the entire course has sand fairways. Just the type of soil we have in this region but it can be annoying picking up a disc and its covered in sand. The back 9 has tighter fair ways and a bad shot can quickly be 20 feet into thick woods.

Other Thoughts:

Great course. Nice family park. Always nice people I love this course! Must play if in the Augusta area.

Clean little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 23, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

18 holes in a well kept little city park. Nice concrete pads, good signs and plenty of benches and trash cans. Baskets and all features are in good shape. There is even a practice basket near the parking lot.

Fairways are clear and well defined. Underbrush in the rough isn't too bad. There is really nowhere where you are likely to lose a disc.

Several holes have multiple basket positions. This really helps add some length and variety to the course.

Not a ton of elevation here but some subtle ups and downs do come into play.

Cons:

Length. Not only are many of the holes under 300', there is simply not a ton of variety here. The lengths are so similar you will likely use the same disc on many drives. It gets a little repetitive.

There also seems to be a lot of straight or RHFH shots. Not a ton of line shaping or big sweeping angles.

As with most multi use parks this course suffers from fairways next to other park facilities. Hole 1 has a few picnic tables within range, Hole 2 has a lovely playground on the left, and then there are multiple spots where you are forced to throw over a walking path. Not great stuff.

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course is worth a stop of you are close by. Not worthy of going out of your way to play, but serviceable if you are nearby. It is a pretty quick play, and the atmosphere in the park is pretty nice. Plus it has a huge tank on the grounds. How cool is that? Just don't expect a diverse or overly challenging course. Most of the fairways are pretty open, and the ones that are wooded are either wide enough to be forgiving or have sparse enough trees to make shots easily manageable. Not really any memorable holes here, but nothing that will frustrate the heck out of you either. Just simple straightword, putter and mid golf.

If you have a chance stop by and chat with Fast Eddie. There's more than a 99.9% chNce he'll be there in his bright white shirt chugging along on his golf cart or partaking in a quick round. Every one is a better persons for knowing Fast.

A Visitor’s Perspective on DGCR’s Most Infamous Rec Course 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Feb 16, 2015 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Pendleton King Park is one of the more impressive city parks I've ever been to. Technically, the entire 64-acre tract is a bird sanctuary, which makes it even more noteworthy that a dog park, play equipment, and a disc golf course can coexist with the magnificent landscaping and twittering birds scattered throughout the grounds. I don't think I've ever played a park layout in more pleasant surroundings.

Luckily for us, the golf isn't bad either. The holes are divided between the open, amenity-filled area of the park and a wooded, nature trail area beyond. Most are pretty straightforward ~275 footers that play straight or basic doglegs in both directions. A handful of holes offer multiple baskets with more challenging B pins to break up some of the monotony, and largely do so with success. Less skilled players should find enjoyment in weighing whether or not to attack holes with a fairway driver for a shot at 2 or shaping a mid for a tap-in 3. This very basic risk/reward may seem simplistic for intermediate and above, but it's really enjoyable for a rec player like me who's just excited to flirt with par.

All the little course amenities are here: concrete pads, abundant trash cans, benches at every tee, mid-round restrooms, bag hangers, visible next tee signs when needed. The baskets are older, but still catch well and show no signs of vandalism. Flags (when necessary) and bright orange hole numbers aid in visibility.

Many of the fairways and greens are sand, which may seem like a given for a local, but is a delight for a Midwesterner used to slogging through sticky mud in the winter and spring. I imagine this keeps the course drained and dry more often than not.

I can't speak to the "friendliness" of the course, but it's certainly clean.

Cons:

As a popular park course, PKP also seems to experience all of the classic park course drawbacks. Mob golf runs rampant, as my twosome had to wait behind clusters of 8 and 13(!) at one point.

Nearly all of the open holes play near to other park amenities, but only Hole 2 offers any real concern to the considerate player, as the fairway abuts a large play area and the green backs up to a park entrance driveway. Hole 3 plays over this same driveway, but close enough that it would be next to impossible to be surprised by and strike a passing vehicle. The rest of the open holes provide a clear enough view of the surrounding area that park patron safety shouldn't be an issue.

Because the vast majority of the wooded holes are so straightforward, they tend to blend together in an amnesiac smoothie of mediocrity. Holes 10-15 are a blur, and I couldn't recall any of them from memory.

Other Thoughts:

PKP is probably a 3 for most on this site, but a fun factor aimed directly at my skill level combined with top-tier course and park amenities force this reviewer to give it the extra boost. In a nutshell, this is the kind of park I'd be thrilled to call my home course, a feeling I clearly share with Fast Eddie and the rest of the PKP crew. It's no 5-disc wonderland, but it's definitely worth an hour of your time.

We played Pendleton King twice as a cooldown course after tackling the IDGC over two days, and it works admirably in that capacity. Bring your confidence level back up after getting beat down across town!

A Walk in the Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Pendleton King is just aesthetically pleasing. lots of bushes and gardens around. The transition between holes 8 & 9 is probably the best walk between holes I have ever seen. The rolling hill, manicured bushes, and beautifully framed fairway make 18 the signature hole and perfect finisher. The gated garden and gazebo behind the basket just adds to the beauty.
-This course has the best benches I have ever seen on a DG course. They were all long with stained wood and small wooden plaques saying who donated them.
-Lines are fair at PK and the rough is not punishing. Lots of well-sculpted fairways through somewhat dense woods. The holes out of the woods were lightly wooded, fun shots.
-The teepads here are great. Long trapezoids with bricks at the front of the pad. Great grip.
-The next tee signs are well-placed and do a great job of pointing you the right direction.
-This course defies the stereotype of your typical course in a city park as it is not overly short and provides a decent challenge for the more experienced player and not completely turning off newer players.

Cons:

-Crowded! Both the course and the park itself are overrun with people. I would definitely try to play at non peak hours. We played on a Sunday evening and had to do a lot waiting and playing through large groups.
-Several holes are very dangerous as Hole 2 plays right by a playground and restrooms, Hole 3 over the park road, and several holes play in close proximity to the walking path.
-The course can get repetitive at times. Holes 10, 12, and 13 felt like the same hole. I feel like some more work could have been put in to the design of the holes.

Other Thoughts:

I really loved this course. It was a lot of line shaping, but was just a very pleasant disc golf experience. It was like playing disc golf in the secret garden except with 100s of people. While not the best in the area, this course provides a great alternative to the grueling long courses at the IDGC and the gimmicky holes at the Hippodrome. After playing 9 courses in the area over a 2 day period I kept asking myself, "What doesn't Augusta/N. Augusta have to offer?"

The Masters ... of its own domain 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 6, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

Pendleton King is a decent disc golf course in a great neighborhood park. As the Augusta DGA's own website states, this is a course that's aimed at a "beginner - novice" crowd.
- This is not going to be a PK- bashing review. Sorry to disappoint some. It's just a straightforward review of this course, letting others decide whether this is a course they'll want to play.
- Per the Augusta DGA's website, here's their description of the course: "Overview: Slightly Wooded Course, Slight Range of Elevation"...that sums up this course perfectly. This is a mostly open course, with plenty of wide fairways, and often only minimal tree coverage to maneuver your disc around.
- The course has some enjoyable holes. #2 is a nice, lightly tree-protected, longer hole on the course. Listed at 467 feet (more on that later), it's the course's longest hole. #6 is a fun, slight downhill, dogleg right hole, at 261 feet. A more aggressive shot should result in a birdie putt, or ending up in the thick rough. #9 is a downhill, semi-tight layout at 290 feet. Anything from a tap-in 2 to a scramble out of the woods 5 all seem feasible on this layout.
- The most 'Augusta' hole to me was #18, one of the better holes on the course. By that, I mean it's the most Augusta National, lily-white, scenic layout on the course. There aren't any azaleas here, or at least none that I saw, but throwing over and around shrubs, flowers and trees, and next to a gazebo, giving players a picturesque ending to your round.
- The course winds through the park. At times you're isolated from other activities, other times you have to be careful. From the road, this just looked like your typical, small neighborhood park. I was pleasantly surprised how big the park actually is. Most neighborhood park-level courses are of the nine-hole, pitch-n-putt variety. Here you get a full 18-hole layout. This would be a great park to have if you live in this neighborhood.
- The 'next hole' signs on this course are great. They're cut-outs of an index finger pointing out to the next hole, or pointing out a mando when appropriate. It's a greater touch than the standard arrow, or something lesser.
- I enjoyed my drive to the park. I got to drive past one of the real, members' entrances to Augusta National rather than the made-for-TV entrance off Eisenhower Drive. Let's just say the neighborhood across the street from Augusta National is exactly what you would expect. Well, expect for Dave Loggins' "Augusta" theme song playing.

Cons:

The cons aren't anything egregious, at least anything that directly impacts the course.
- As the hometown DGC stated, this course doesn't have much variety to it - nothing really long; nothing really short; no completely wide open holes and no super narrow, wooded fairways. With some slight differences, you feel like you're playing the same couple of holes throughout the entire round.
- What are the exact distances for these holes? The tee signs, online scorecard, online map (both produced by locals) and the info on this site are all different. On some holes, the various listings are virtually the same. For example, the distances for #1 range from 250 - 255 feet. For #2, the listed layouts are as follows: 340, 367, 395 and 467 feet. Oh, and the online aerial drone video lists it at 320 feet. When I played, I'd lean to the 375 foot range. This isn't just a problem here, but something I dealt with at many of the Augusta-area courses.
- Course is lacking a great, signature hole or two. It may be due to being a beginner-friendly course, which contributes to the general blase feel of the course. Still, the best way to add flavor to a bland soup is to kick in some pepper or Tabasco sauce. #7 seems to have the most potential for being a challenging, long par 4. In fact, on the course map, the hole is listed at 405 feet (480 to the long tee), not that it's actually that long. The fact it has that potential, means you could have at least one challenging par 4.
- The course is very sandy. I know that's part of the makeup of the land in this area (we have red clay in Charlotte). But of all the courses in this area, I looked, and felt, most like I had just come from the beach at this course.

Other Thoughts:

Pendleton King's disc golf course does have potential. I'm referring to realistic potential of this being a nice course, and not the fantastical beliefs of some.
- This is a great course for beginners. Of all the courses in the Augusta area, this is the best one to bring new or casual players. They won't be overwhelmed, but should still enjoy the challenges. Let them hone their skills heir before moving on to the IDGC and other area courses.
- There are some very nice parts of the park. The walk from #8 to 9 feels like you suddenly appeared in a private garden or arboretum. There's also a really nice pond to the right of #5. If you ignore the unsightly and decrepit basketball and tennis courts next to holes #3 & 4, you can see the nice parts of the rest of the park.
- I gets it's an Augusta staple to name holes on a course. All holes are named after birds. I enjoyed that two of the holes had Carolina names (#1 - Carolina Chickadee & 9 - Carolina Wren), meaning I could get a taste of home while being here.
- This is a solidly decent course throughout. There isn't a poor, throwaway hole on the entire course. The problem is that there isn't anything great either, at least in its current layout. It would be nice to have one signature, must play hole. I guess #18 fits the criteria of the course's signature hole, based on how it most closely portrays the park's identity.
- If you want a change of pace, this is a nice, easier speed compared to the other local courses. For a neighborhood park, most people, myself included, would enjoy having this within walking distance.
- Here is the best testament I can give to Pendleton King's disc golf course. I played eight 18-hole disc golf courses in the Augusta area during my two-day trip, including the IDGC and Hippodrome. This was the eighth best of those courses. That speaks to the tremendous, overall quality of disc golf courses in this area. For other cities in the region - Asheville, Columbia, Charleston - this course would easily be the third or fourth best in those locales. The fact Augusta has so much depth, quality and variety in its courses cannot be overlooked.

Pros:

1 runs parallel to the park road but does hinder you to throw into the basket. Prevented measures such as added trees to stay inbounds is a plus.
2 pretty much traverses a playground, but again Prevented measures such as added trees and nets were added to stay away from the playground. In my opinion, as a local law enforcement NO holes are dangerous to joggers nor park visitor. A simple "heads up" has always been well received. Most visitors to PKP probably don't realize that the landscaping in the Park is maintained by a dedicated group of volunteers. Fast Eddie has lead a core group of volunteers in maintaining and reviving the disc golf course. GREAT JOB!

Clean and Friendly 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 2, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

This is the cleanest and friendliest course that I have ever played. Fast Eddie and the boys even managed to part the clouds and stop the rain for me. Seriously though, what I think is meant by clean and friendly is well-maintained. Partly that is due to the fact that much of the course traverses areas of the park that are multi-use. But partly, it's due to an intense maintenance effort that keeps the wooded areas of the course as pristine as the park areas.
There is a lot to like aesthetically in Pendleton King, from arboretums to gardens. Several elements do make the course stand out that aren't technically part of the golf. The walkway from 8's basket to the 9 tee feels like it belongs at Augusta National. The gated garden behind the 18th basket provides a truly memorable finish. These things do have an effect.
And it is clean. This is a course that is very well-suited to new players. There is little that will challenge the veteran but there is a great variety, from wide open holes to well-carved path from the woods but no fairway would be considered restrictive.
That back nine actually features some solid golf. If the front nine matched up, this would be a borderline 3.5 course. With the exception of 17 and 18, the second half is entirely in the woods. There is a good variety of lines, with some clear left holes, a few right holes and some very well designed RHBH anny shots. I wouldn't mind looping this nine a few times. It's a very solid play with vary fair, very well-cleared fairways. If there is a standout hole, it is 14, which is significantly longer than anything else and likely requires multiple throws through the woods.
I'd imagine the course plays very well on league nights. The later hours mitigate a lot of the problems with the front nine and on doubles nights, players are likely counting their birdies. Pretty much every hole here is eminently birdiable for intermediate players. The local league members probably have a blast at Pendleton, running for aces and trying for low scores.
Because of the maintenance, and the preponderance of navigation aids, it is indeed a clean and friendly play.

Cons:

Before I start on the front nine, I should mention that while the back nine is solid, it is far from spectacular. There is nothing memorable. Solid wooded holes that are just too wide to be all that interesting. There is some elevation but not too much. The basic layout shapes are all there, but nothing stirs the imagination.
So the front nine. There are some problems. There a lot of facilities in this park. Probably a lot of traffic at times. So to begin. 1 runs parallel to the park road. Very close to the park road. 2 pretty much traverses a playground. 3 throws directly over the park road. 4, 5 and 8 don't force players to throw over any specific areas of use but there are jogging paths and open fields that are clearly used by pedestrians. These holes are dangerous and it is mind boggling that anyone would consider a course to be elite that featured these five holes.
Even if you took out all the interference issues, these holes would be a 2.5 at best. They just aren't interesting. Typically straight shots with little in the way of obstacles. (besides the children) Pretty, but very boring in a disc golf sense. Even 6 and 7 which make a mini woods loop, are bleh. 6 is a gimmicky nags, with a forced layup to get around a near ninety-degree bend too close to the tee. Honestly, on the walk to hole ten, I thought I would be rating this course a 2.0. There are just too many problem areas on what be a very bland course even if they were somehow corrected.
I just don't think the property could sustain an elite course. The terrain isn't there and too much of the space is already taken up by other park facilities. I think the most of it has been made on the back nine. Unless there is some space to create another nine like that back, this course is best left to appeal to beginners and players who don't want to be challenged, and ideally want to play when there are no other park-goers present.

Other Thoughts:

I saw who I can only assume was Fast Eddie working on the alt basket for 7.....in the rain. With that kind of dedication, it is not hard to understand the loyalty of the locals to this course. Not hard to imagine someone paying respect by going online and overrating the course. (And while typically I don't even think about what other reviewers say when I write one, it's impossible to talk about PK without the context of what's been happening review-wise.
So no, in my opinion it is not a five. If I could be more specific, I'd give Pendleton King a 2.7. So consider this a high 2.5. It's a fun course. But it's not one that I would recommend players target in their journeys. Especially not in Augusta. I realize that I talked a lot about ratings here and typically I think the rating is the least important part of the review. But it is hard to disentangle the rating from this course, given all the hoopla. I think the back nine will eventually be a 3.5, given that it seems as if alternate baskets are being added that will make several holes more challenging. The front nine is going to be hard to improve without a substantial redesign though. 6 could be tweaked and it looks like 7 is going to be a sweet hole eventually but there just isn't much too work with on that part of the property.

Pros:

Great tee pads. Trash cans every hole & nice benches. Beginner friendly course. Good twist to the course from the 6th hole. This course is one of the best maintained courses we have ever played & improvements are being made continually. Park staff and volunteers are friendly and the park opens early. Flags to gauge the wind is a nice add. The shrubs and nets are very helpfull

Cons:

Hole 2 is close to playground and bath room area.

Other Thoughts:

Course has come a long way. The cleanest course I have been to in the Augusta area. Keep up the good work.

Other Thoughts:

A great course for players just starting and a fun course for mid level players.

P.K. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:May 1, 2014 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Nice layout through a very clean and safe park setting. 2 restrooms along course route with one close to hole 1. Some open and some woods provides sufficient challenge for the rec player such as myself. A few of short woods holes have Long & Short permanent baskets to add some additional challenge. The path to hole 9 cuts through a beautiful garden. Course is not only very fun to play it is also a nice walk through gardens with sculpted bushes and flowers. Baskets in good shape, catch well and are highlighted with florescent paint to make them easy to spot. There is sufficient space between baskets, not cluttered, the basket you see is the one you are throwing to. Signature hole 18 finishes by a rose garden. Take time to smell the roses. Cement tee pads and tee signs. Park & D/golf is free.

Cons:

Only 1 set of tees per hole. Short on challenge for advanced players. The wooded holes do not stand out much from one another and can seem a little repetitive.

Other Thoughts:

One of the easier courses in the Augusta area but still a very fun play that seems most suited for recreational players. The "Friendly" course did not eat any of our discs. The rough, although present on some holes does not eat discs. Just rough enough to punish you with a tough next throw, not a lost disc. The wooded holes have well defined lines and fairways.

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 17, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There have been some really good improvements over the years and recently. Benches at every hole, basket locations, flags on baskets to gauge the wind, added a practice basket recently, & maintained clean course. I've heard rumors of adding alternate basket locations.

Cons:

Although some cover has been planted on hole 1 and 2 picnic tables can come into play.

Other Thoughts:

Course has come a long way from where it was a few years back, short and wide open. Course is maintained well and improvements are being made every time I go back it seems lately.
