Perfect beginner's course in the heart of Illinois 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2018 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Perfect par 3 course for beginners.

Scenic.

Low (golfing) traffic, so a great course to practice at alone or with a friend. You don't have to worry about holding people up here.

Cons:

There are only 9 baskets, with 2 launchpads per basket to make 18 holes (not necessarily a con, but it might get boring for some people).

Holes 9 and 18 can be tricky, as discs may end up in the adjacent baseball field.

A paved walking path runs between the wooded holes, so watch out for people when throwing.

The driveway entrance cuts the course in half.

Other Thoughts:

If you're new to disc golf, look no further than Shore Acres. I like to say that this is where I learned how to play disc golf, a sport that I had given up on until I met a friend from Chillicothe who reintroduced me to the sport.

The course is very basic but sits next to the Illinois River and shares the park with a baseball field, swimming pool complex, tennis courts, and a shelter. Even the wooded portions of Shore Acres are easy, as the trees are tall with only a canopy and few branches that get in your way. It is very hard to lose a disc at Shore Acres.

The course is scenic and well-maintained. It has a porta-potty next to the parking lot and garbage cans as well. If you go to Bradley (as I did) and want to try a new course besides Bradley Park, Shore Acres isn't too far away!

Great memories at Shore Acres, would definitely recommend it especially if you're new to the sport. Basic doesn't mean bad or boring; Shore Acres is a great venue for a quick game with a buddy or just to practice alone!

Chillicothe 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 4, 2012 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Course is located in an unused park with two sets of cement tees and a tall wooden post by each tee. The park is nicely taken care of and seems to have very low traffic.

Cons:

This course is very boring...the two sets of tees don't really add much variety. It's very open and has no elevation changes. I guess the course designer used the space wisely...it's just really lame. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to play here.

Other Thoughts:

I don't really think there's much else to say. I uploaded pictures of the front 9 so you guys can see for yourself. I would have played the back 9 but it's basically the same thing as the front 9 and I got bored.

If you're in the area, play some of the powerhouse courses (Pekin, Bradley, Morton, or Eureka) and avoid this one.

Nice little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 8, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

We had fun here. Park is well kept. Baskets in good shape. Everything is pretty close and easy to navigate around.

Cons:

Not much of a challenge.

Other Thoughts:

Good course to play if you're in the area. I don't think it's possible to lose a disc here. If you have kids there is also a nice playground in the park and it's easy to push a stroller through this course.

Beginner Course that is being updated 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 2, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Nice scenery and easy to follow.

Cons:

Currently it is a very short course. The longest hole being 280ft with most holes hovering around 200ft.

Other Thoughts:

This course is being redesigned by my self and the Peoria Frisbee Club and should have a new layout installed this fall.

short little beginner course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 8, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

-very easy layout to follow
-facilities include bathrooms and water some trashcans by pavilions
-very quick play: less than half an hour to play
-tee signs describing the holes are adequate
-nice views of the Illinois River
-public pool in park (this is a pro when it's 90 degrees outside :))
-good beginner course
-well maintained

Cons:

-ridiculously short-there wasn't a hole over 280', most were under 200'
-rutted natural tee pads, a lot of times the pads were right by trees so there were tree roots exposed in the pads.
-very monotonous-almost every hole was a straight putter or roc shot with a fair number of trees on 1-5, and fairly open from there on.
-The tee sign for 8 was missing.
-There is a walking trail winding through holes 1-5, and hole 1 plays over it. Be careful of pedestrians.

Other Thoughts:

-This is a fun ace run beginner course in a nice park.
