I love going here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 16, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There is only 1 or two boring holes. Those are only boring compared to the other holes but still nice holes to play. Has all the challenges I like having in a course that keeps me going there.

Cons:

Some of the holes run too close to the road.

Other Thoughts:

The alternative spots does not add or detract a lot of challenge.

Challenging tree tunnels and beautiful views 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 20, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

- Nice large parking area and easy to find. Your round starts and ends right next to the parking lot.

- Beautiful city park with a couple holes along shores of the main lake and a number of other, smaller, hidden ponds throughout the woods that are either in play (as water carries) or very close to in play.

- Holes #4 and #16 through 18 are open/light woods, giving you a much needed breather from the dense tight lines of virtually every other hole. They add nice variety, so not every hole feels the same.

- Great use of the hills and ponds, with uphills, downhills, and valley-crosses that feel much more substantial in elevation change than anywhere else in South Jersey. That, and water carries are always fun.

- Nicely visible next tee arrows posted on baskets and trees throughout much of the course. They're actively working on this in response to previous reviews, and it absolutely helps. Only missing one I saw was for how to get to the yellow tee on #9 (it's down the hill to your right when you walk over from #8).

- Other reviewers have mentioned a lot of trash, but it looked pretty clean to me. Must have been cleaned up recently.

Cons:

- Seems like the course layout is frequently changing. The current course map is way out of date: over half the holes are either misnumbered or sketched out in a way that doesn't reflect the current layout. It really needs a new course map both uploaded here and posted in hard copy on the big display board by the parking lot.

- High disk risk. Even if you play the shorter White tees, there are some SERIOUS water carries here that no beginner would ever feel comfortable trying. #14 isn't as bad as it looks from either the White or Yellow tees because it's downhill, but #10 is really intimidating: from the Yellow tee you'll need about 350ft to make it to truly dry land on the other side. I value my disks too much for that, didn't even try it. You've also got water potentially in play from an errant shot or bad tree kick on #1, 9, 12, and 17.

- Only a couple paver tees, mostly short carpets or dirt tees. Could really use pavers to provide better traction.

- Many tee signs are missing or outdated, and they're only at the Yellow tees. Kind of expected given that they're actively revising the hole layouts, but that still makes it hard to tell if you're at the right tee or throwing the right direction on some holes.

- Many baskets are rusty. Not bent or leaned over, but still in need of care.

- I'm sorry, but #3 is a joke. A four foot wide tunnel with impenetrable thickets of spindly trees on both sides that you can't avoid entering, and with some spindly trees even in the middle of your tunnel. And from the Yellow tee all you see is a wall of spindly trees with no entrance into the tunnel. Come on, seriously? By some miracle I eeked out just a single bogey, but I still think that hole needs some serious rethinking.

- The fence line across #18: Yeah, if you can bomb it long enough it probably doesn't come into play. But it does seem pretty gimmicky, and would definitely tick you off if you landed a beautiful bomb shot right up against it. Why couldn't the basket just be moved 75 feet closer and onto the close side of the fence? It's in an open field either way...

Other Thoughts:

- The locals are awesome. I had the privilege to meet one of the course designers on my visit, and he was very friendly and really excited to hear my feedback. He even helped guide my partner and I to a couple of the next tees that were harder to find. Love that they care so much.

- They just added a brand new elevated wooden extra-long Green tee to hole #1, which (if you choose to play it) gives you a substantial (~250ft) water carry across the edge of the lake to start your round. Beautiful view, and it follows the shore closely enough that you could bail out left if needed.

- Really challenging from the long Yellow tees! You're bound to nail a lot of trees, and par isn't even close to plausible for an intermediate player. Be prepared for a lot of bogeys, nailing a lot of trees, and being humbled by tight tunnel after tight tunnel if you play the longs like I did. I look forward to coming back to try the short Whites next time.

- The old #6 is now relabeled as hole #A, and the White tee and basket for old #4 are still in the ground, so you can actually play 20 holes here if you wanted to.

Fine Vineland 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 26, 2020 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

+ The course plays through some open fields but mostly favors dense tunnels and tree-dodging in this woodsy municipal park in the heart of Vineland.
+ Bright yellow arrows at the bottom of many of the baskets point the way through the course.
+ While the course is mostly flat, quite a few dips, big bumps, and tiny valleys lend this course a rugged texture.
+ The hole signs are helpful, accurate and well illustrated with just the facts we need like par and distance, but...

Cons:

- ...Only the long tee pads have the information signs, so players of the short layout will have to find the long tee first if they want to know the layout ahead.
- Most of the baskets are old with weak and rusty chains.
- There is trash visible on most holes. Please don't litter, folks.
- The tee pads vary among carpet, rubber, none at all and a few concrete.
- The course needs more guiding signage in the denser wooded holes within the back nine. Getting lost is possible between holes 14 - 16.
- No practice pin, info board or lost disc box.

Other Thoughts:

My favorite hole to play here was hole 3 because of its narrow twisty tunnel. It was like a disc golf pretzel. My favorite hole to look at was 9 because it ends with the player standing atop a tall mound of land surrounded by pines and overlooking a motionless lake below. My least favorite hole is 8 because it plays right alongside the park road.

South Vineland was tough for me to pin down, even by my own subjective scale. On the one hand, I can't ignore my perception of how plain most of the first half and the final three holes seemed to me. Maybe it was the grab-bag tee pads. It could have been that the tunnel shots in the beginning were too brief for me to savor. It could have been its bland topography at the beginning and towards the end. Or maybe it was a combination of all of that.

On the other hand, I love playing in hilly pine woods, and South Vineland has a nice section of that among holes 9 through 15. Those were easily the strongest part of the course. Maybe it was the peaceful and pretty lakes the player is treated to. Maybe it was the thrilling throws over those bodies of water. Maybe it was the jagged landscape of those hilly pines. Perhaps it was the devious lines through the trees that make players feel a sense of accomplishment. Or maybe it was a combination of all of that.

The good definitely outweighs the bad here. Though it is clearly geared more towards accuracy and placement, all golfers can get enjoyment from what is here. Still, there is much to repair, replace and rethink. Consistent tee pads would be a good start. Replacing the old rusted baskets would also be a good change. More prevalent and permanent signage would be a good thing, too. Also, what was the deal with that mysterious extra tee pad and basket near the entrance of the park? Is this place actually a 19-hole course? I skipped that one because it confused me.

In closing, I see potential for an even better course here. The infrastructure can definitely be improved, and maybe the layout can be tweaked slightly. Regardless, I gently recommend South Vineland because it is a little piece of ragged and jagged disc golf in an otherwise flat and boring world. Give it a try if you're nearby, but maybe don't rush to get there.

Fun and Challenging Course with Memorable Holes 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 2, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very good course; almost every hole is memorable, with a natural or manmade "feature"

1: Water along the right. Not really in play, but it's in your head. Basket up on a rise

2: Wooded slight dogleg right. South Jersey woods, like Doc or Alcyon

3: Tight trail. Basket not visible from yellow tee

4: A fair par 4. The yellow teepad is tucked against the treeline as you enter the park. The hole is long and straight with a slightly elevated basket in the corner of the woods. Chances are good you'll be throwing into a headwind off the lake (but you might not be able to feel it at the tee). The road on the right is OB, and the downslope brings it into play when your disc fades.

A: Currently marked "A", this hole is between #4 and #5 - it's a great 270' alley shot

5 - 7: mostly straight, but tight wooded lines, reminded me of Doc, Allaire, and Stafford. Hole #7 finishes with an open landing area, but the basket is guarded tightly by surrounding trees

8: A tough par 4 from the yellows because the road running tight on the left side creates the need for a flex or very straight (RH) forehand, with woods all along the right. The second half of the hole is easier though, threading through a pretty open window of trees. Very good hole!

9: Here comes the water. Like hole #1 it's all along the right side, not really in play (unless you get a terrible kick). The basket is set on a little bit of a peninsula, with drop-offs and water surrounding it. The best putt is straight on - don't be long, left or right

10: A long carry over water. The tee and basket are at roughly the same elevation, with a big (wet) valley in between. The water was particularly high and the landing area was really muddy the day I played - so I took a penalty and teed from the whites. Still a challenge because you're throwing up at a wooded basket

11: Blind left hand dogleg, but it's pretty open in the landing area, with the basket up a hill. The locals have done a nice job putting in timbers to prevent erosion (and to stop low shots)

12: Long and straight, across a valley. Difficult to make par from yellow if you don't have a big and controlled arm. CAUTION: the valley is full of little vines with razor sharp prickers. Use care when reaching down to pick up your disc

13: Short uphill par 3. This hole provides a little much-needed relief on the back 9

14: Water carry - but you need only about 180' from the yellow tees, and it's significantly downhill. This is a really pretty water hole, and it's easier than it looks from the yellow tees

15: Long walk to find the tee. You pass the basket on your right as you leave the water hole. It's a slight dogleg that makes the turn right at the white tee, which is about 200' from the yellows. The basket is in a nice open area with lots of low brush that will catch and stop your disc.

16 - 18: Open holes to finish the round, A chance to let loose. #18 is particular open - and long, at 792' par 5 - There's a cyclone fence across the fairway at about 100' short of the elevated pin, so you have to be careful with your approach and not end up against the fence throwing straight up into the air

Cons:

- Teepads are the weak link at South Vineland. Mostly rugs, and a few rubber. There's a paver beauty on the yellow tee on #18, so I'm hoping that's a sign of things to come

- Many of the reviewers talk about problems when the course is wet. I didn't experience problems (although #10 seemed really swampy), but I didn't play during a particularly wet time. But if you're coming from a distance, it's worth considering

- The uDisc map is out of date, especially on the back 9. Thankfully the signage is very good. There are a couple of long walks between the last 3 or 4 holes, and not having a map made for some extra wandering around

- The signs are temporary (paper in plastic sleeves), which I suspect indicates the current tweaking of the layout. The signs themselves are great illustrations and include OB. The only mistake I saw was on #18, which indicated the yellow as "792 FEET PAR 3." Ummm...I hope not

- Speaking of #18, the cyclone fence that crosses the fairway is probably controversial. It didn't come into play for me - my 3rd shot landed well short of it. But it seems like having a six foot fence across a fairway could rile people up

Other Thoughts:

~ South Vineland is a very good course with 10 or more excellent, memorable holes. It's clearly a work in progress: the navigation signage has improved, a new teepad on18, the layout is being tweaked. This is a solid "4" if not a "4.5" and it's definitely a much better course than the earlier reviews would indicate.

~ I drove almost two hours to play it and I wasn't disappointed. Walking up #18 and seeing hole #1 on my right across the water, I felt like my round had been a hell of a ride. The same feeling I've had a Stafford, Doc, Alcyon, Allaire, Tecumseh. South Vineland is earning its way into any conversation about the top courses in New Jersey

Varied, good course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Aug 30, 2021 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Jekyll/Hyde course. Holes 1-7 (except the no. 4 fairway) are tight and mostly short. Hole 8 along the edge of the parking lot is a good transition. Holes 9-18 are spaced further apart, over rolling terrain, mostly in dense woods. Varied.

The back 9 is hard on a beginner, but has some reasonable holes, including 9, 11, 13, 15-17.

Hole 7 opens to a wide, shaded green at the end of the fairway. Hole 12 requires a drive into a ravine and then back up to a ledge. Or from ledge to ledge if you are a strong thrower. Hole 15 is very pretty with its wooded fairway and open, sandy green. Holes 16-18 are in a sparsely-wooded meadow. Nice reprieve from the woods you've been in since the beginning. No. 18 is super long from the yellow and green tees, over open field, needs a turnover shot to get over the final fence. I found its tees for yellow and green (latter in a tight alcove of trees near the lake shoreline), but I never encountered the 300-foot red tee.

Many ponds and the main lake make for lovely scenery. I took alot of photos in 2019 and 2021.

New signs make a world of difference. Though placed mostly only at the yellow/long tees and not repeated at white or red (too much money, I imagine), the information on the signs is priceless for finding all 3 tees per hole. (NB: a large number of the white/red tees are combined.)

The basket of no. 10 has been placed at the end of a tunnel, and the white/red pad is out of the boggy mess but still on the safe side of the pond. This rearrangement now makes no. 10 playable for the short thrower.

Hole A (parallel to and between holes 5 and 6) is now well marked, so if you want to play 18 traditional holes and skip it, it's clear you are not missing a hole you want to play.

Perhaps it has been there all along, but there is a practice basket near the park road and on your way from no. 7 to no. 8. It's clearly marked too now, so no confusion if it is a second basket for no. 7.

Cons:

Jekyll/Hyde course. Rear 9 is distinctly tougher than the front 9. In addition to alot of walking and climbing, there is serious water to get over at 10 and 14 (also no. 9 for the yellow tee people). I can't yet handle big water, so I just don't play these holes. I write down par+4 and move on. There is now a drop zone for 14 that you can start from, shooting 3.

Course map online is incorrect, out-of-date. Use UDisc instead if you have it.

Some of the white/red tees are literally white rugs/mats and get covered by the white sand. Rather tough to find. No hole signs there. I had this problem at nos. 9 and 15.

I never found white/red tees for nos. 13 and 18.

Tee pads vary widely: some concrete, some mats, some natural, one paver at yellow 18.

Next-tee sign to no. 11's white/red tee is incorrect.

Two benches at 7 and 11; I believe the current one at 11 is a replacement and newer (thanks, local club/parks dept.). Some logs to sit on at a few other holes. However, mostly there is nowhere to sit and rest. Some of us need such.

Other Thoughts:

I first played this course Feb. 2019 when I was in the area. I was in the area more recently Aug. 2021 and have updated my previous comments here to reflect the new reality.

Go to hole 1 not via the trail into the woods but along the lake shoreline. The yellow tee is nearest the fishing pier. Keep walking and find the white tee inside a fence. There is also a red tee further up the hill. The basket for no. 1 used to be into the woods a bit. It is now at the end of a narrow fairway along the shoreline.

New signs make a real difference in your navigation and (thus) your degree of enjoyment. If you are not wasting time, trying to find holes, you can (um) play the holes!! (smile).

Vineland is a smaller town in the grand scheme of things: 61000 people or so. This is a quality course for a small place like this. With Route 55 connecting Vineland and suburban Philadelphia via a real interstate roadway, I imagine plenty Philly dolfers frequent this course.

Also makes a good day trip (perhaps add Cape May Zoo and/or Stafford Woods or New Brooklyn courses) for Delaware disc golfers wanting something different.

BTW the park is actually at 429 W Elmer Road and has been renamed after former city mayor Anthony Campanella Sr. So look for his name versus South Vineland Park,

Worth a drive up from the shore 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 24, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

South Vineland Park is a well maintained public park with an 18 hole course that plays around a few small lakes/ponds. The Discatcher baskets are a bit old but in good condition and catch well. Most holes have tee signs and include hole distance, par, and a map. Most holes have two tees; white tees are shorter shots adding up to just under 4000 feet of fairway and most holes under 300 feet, while the yellow tees are much longer and more challenging amounting to over 6000 feet of fairway with distances ranging for 178 - 792 feet. The course navigates mostly pretty intuitively around the lakes, through woods, and into a few more open shots. The last three holes are wide open and longer and a great way to finish the round. Navigation signage is mostly present and generally makes getting around the course easy for a first time player. Fairways are generally well defined and foliage maintenance is acceptable, though with most wooded courses, there is pretty thick natural rough. Many tee areas have log benches. The course is quite challenging due to tight wooded shots, long distance, water in play on three or four holes, and basket placement that make you think twice about running long puts. Water shots are fair and losing a disc is pretty unlikely. Elevation changes, when present, are well utilized and the holes are well designed with a varied mix of shots and distances. The park has plenty of parking and walking trails.

Cons:

Tee pads are acceptable but could be better; some are just mats that have clearly seen better days. Some holes are missing tee signs. No navigation signage after hole 15 had me lost for a bit. The rough can be frustrating if you land in it and hole 10 is one hole that you'd love to have a spotter for as there's a long walk around the water after your drive.

Other Thoughts:

I drove the 45 minutes up to Vineland to play here while on vacation at the shore in Avalon. Most of the courses near the shore had poor reviews and driving up here was worth it. Playing here was very fun and the challenging course humbled me greatly as I shot 23 over par - in part due to strong winds that had me putting several times on a few holes. I'd recommend getting away from the shore for half a day and playing a round here. Great course that will test distance, accuracy, versatility, putting, scrambling, and every other facet of the game!

Pros:

Only 18 hole course in the area.
Unique holes with multiple tees.

Cons:

Very difficult to navigate.
Park was a bit creepy.
Trash.

Other Thoughts:

I played this course just once while visiting the shore. I was an hour away, but this was the only 18 hole course nearby so I made the drive. It was easy to find the park, but finding hole 1, not so much. After that, finding the next tees and holes was a challenge for most of the round. 1-5 wasn't so bad, but a series of baskets from about 7 to 12 had multiple numbers on the bands. So, I was never quite sure I was throwing to the right basket. I had to walk several holes before playing them because I couldn't see the basket from the tee, and I don't think I ever found 12 and 16. I take that back. I did find 12 as I was walking around looking for the tee box for 18. There was no clear tee for basket 12, and I couldn't see where one would even throw at it.

Someone had clearly made some effort to make navigating this course easier with signs pointing to 'next tee.' But, they would only sort of put you in the right direction. In places I swear there were multiple 'next tee' signs pointing different directions.

The front 9 was pretty full of trash. I was literally using trails of trash to find the next tee. The back 9 was, however, very clean, so maybe the trash isn't from DGers but from other park users. There were a few other people in the park while I was there on a very hot Thursday morning. For example, the guy peeing by basket 12.

Overall, I'm not sure this course is worth the trip unless you are right there in Vineland.

Other Thoughts:

This is my favorite course to play WHEN DRY. Lots of memorable holes make it a lot of fun to play. The biggest problem is when we get luge amounts of rain for consecutive days certain holes may flood where you cannot play them. This happened last year and I did not play it for almost a year. Right now it is in good shape. The last couple holes are a bit confusing. Not sure how you were supposed to play number 18. Teeing area and which basket you were supposed to throw to are not distinctly marked. Overall though I think this is a great place to play. I just hope it doesn't rain too much at one time.

Needs help; but has promise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 9, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Good location, ample parking, restrooms, short technical holes, open holes, water hazards, variety.

The first 9 holes are worth playing alone. Mostly short technical holes with really tight fairways; but with a few open fairways.

Cons:

Trash, flooded holes, poor signage, moved baskets, mosquitos.

This course could really use a trash cleanup day. Not so much holes 1-10; but there were a number of spots on 11-18 where trash was abundant.

The layout of the back 9 is really confusing. It appears that a number of baskets have been moved due to flooding. Its not obvious where the baskets are and you can't see them from most tees and there are no signs. You'll get a lot more out of these holes if you go with a local that knows the course.

I tried to play this course a couple months back when it had been raining a fair amount. We got chased off by massive swarms of mosquitos on holes 6-9. If its been raining avoid those holes.

Other Thoughts:

This is a good location with a lot of promise and fun holes. It mainly needs signs and some cleanup.

We had fun 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 14, 2014 Played the course:once

Pros:

A course in Cumberland County! I like wooded courses. Some very tight and challenging holes for a semi newbie. You will need patience to play this course or you will not have much fun. Very tight heavily wooded fairways, a few gullys to throw across, a good variety of distance with a few open holes thrown in for good measure.

Cons:

Not visitor friendly (It might take a few minutes to find the start point...just prior to the parking area on the left. and be prepared to circle back if you miss a hole because half of the holes do not give directions to the next. Short tees have no pads.

Other Thoughts:

Not sure about trash? I have seen a review where it says it was, but it was very clean today with an occasional bottle or piece of litter but very nice. Beautiful park even outside of the disc golf area. Bring the family and spend the day. Bring bug spray, they were not a major nuisance but they were a minor headache. It was very, very, windy today and some holes are difficult for someone like myself with a weaker arm...but overall I hope to hit this course monthly when we return to visit family.

*** On a second trip July 16-17, I found myself slightly disappointed and have lowered my rating from a 3.5 to a 3. This course is still fun as has a lot of promise with a little work. I really like the work out the terrain allows....however I did encounter a lot more trash this time particularly hole 11 which looks like some druken fisherman or local tees made the pad their local party place, shirts, cans, bottle etc. Hole 12 has an arrow that directs to the next tee that does not even point in the right direction (thanks). Holes 17-18 are about waist high in weeds so even if you know where your disc went it is not fun trecking to go get it, not to mention those 10,000 little black things embedded in my shoelaces and socks...not sure what they were? Once again I have played this course 3 times and never once seen another disc golfer out here, although the park seems to get plenty of visitors daily. So maybe there are no local here anyway? Another bummer was on back to back days the beautiful park with restrooms, had their restrooms locked....a shame I had to eave mid game and run down to Sherman Ave and hit a Wawa....I wouldn't have returned at all, but was having a solid game and couldn't bring myself to quit...Oh well.....a few improvements needed but still a fun course to play

Jersey Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Two sets of tees
-Bathrooms and water fountains on premises
-This course I expected to be flat like most of NJ but it actually had some cool elevation changes. The course designers did use elevation to the best that they could.
-Water scenery is nice
-Some challenging holes due to trees in the way

Cons:

-This course is about the only course in the area so I can see why some people think it's a good course. But if you compare it to PA or NY courses, it doesn't size up well.
-Many of the holes are chuck and hope holes with little fairway to throw through. I am all about woodsy courses, but a few of the holes had almost no space.
-Trash. Trash. Trash. There is lots of it all over, especially the last 7 or 8 holes.
-At one point in the course you actually have to walk past a trespassing sign so there's that....
-My biggest qualm with this course is the lack of incorporating the surrounding water. The website says there are a few water holes here, but you have to be way off line to hit the water. On many occasions the course could have had some memorable throws over the couple of lakes, but no such holes were here. They came close (30 yards) but not used to make it challenging.
-Hole 18 had no fairway so even a straight down the middle throw will cause you too look for 10 minutes in weeds with ticks and poison ivy.
-Navigation is tough on several holes even with the "next tee" signs
-No map to show how the holes lays out which takes away from the appeal for me a great deal since many baskets were not visible from tee

Other Thoughts:

Overall this course wasn't horrible, it just needs a few tweaks to be a 3 or 4 out of 5. The changes wouldn't even take a great deal of money for things like signage with maps, cleaning up trash on several holes, trimming some trees in middle of fairways, mowing 18's fairway, and changing some layouts to incorporate water more.

Pleasant surprise 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 16, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This is definitely a more tight, short, technical course with average hole length around 290-300ish. There was great use of narrow lanes, hills and mounds to protect baskets. Water comes into play on a few holes which I dig--keeps you on your toes. For the yellow tees, there were rubber mat tees pads on most holes and for the pro tees without them, there was usually a segment of carpet instead which worked okay. There is a very cool pond/lake that the course plays around that was busy with people in small boats fishing. The course plays around the parking lot as well so you're never far from your car. I'm big on both aesthetics and good disc golf holes. The course gives you both, as it is very pretty, unique visually, and well designed for a technical play. The baskets were all very nice. The wooden signs pointing the way to both white and yellow tees were very helpful. There were also big yellow yard signs marking each hole with its number.

Cons:

Navigationally, there were only a few difficult spots for me. Hole 3 I couldn't see the basket around and tucked in to the right, and I first threw far and across the road to 5's basket which I presumed was my target since it was too far to read the number 5 on it for my eyes.. Tee signs would prevent this occurrence in the future as the course is hopefully able to raise some money. I didn't see the typical wooden arrows pointing the way from hole 11 to 12, so this took some exploring but I got it in reasonable time. Lastly, 17 basket to 18 tee pad had me a little confused and doubting myself until I found it since it is a bit far away and through retry tall grass/flowers. Lastly issue was hole 17 and 18 in general. Shots directly in the fairway can get lost easily in the stuff this course has you playing through. I don't know if the wild flower fields aren't allowed to be mowed or what, but there needs to be fairways paths mowed here badly. I spent 10 minutes looking for my second shot which was right on a nice line to the basket but short about 50 feet. Some mowing on 17/18, tee signs, and tee pads on the few lacking and this is a great course.

Other Thoughts:

I had known about this course for a little while now, but hadn't had the chance to get in the area to check it out. I had initially written it off as an okay local course, but once I gave it a go, I was hooked by hole 3. I played yellow tees, and hole 1 proved a difficult 3 with a blind shot around a bend to the left. Don't turn it over because your border on the right is the lake! There was a fallen tree across the fairway about 50 feet from the basket making par difficult. Hole 2 is a short narrow right turning line that could prove cumbersome for RHBH that aren't comfortable with anhyzers or flipping discs. Hole 3 is another short right turning blind shot with a protected basket making it a difficult birdie. For this hole, be careful not to shoot all the way across to hole 5 or 8's baskets which are the only 2 in sight. To be honest, hole 3 pad to 5 basket would be a cool tournament hole, but I digress. Hole 4 is one of the three long holes the course offers. It would be a relatively easy par 4 if it weren't for the power lines and telephone poles that you need to navigate through. For RHBH, you can't let your throw go high and left or you'll end up in the woods and you'll need to play out and rescue par or bogey. Hole 5 plays along the edge of the woods (on your right) with the basket tucked in the woods line on top of a mound, yet another right turning line. Hole 6 plays straight through a cool little ravine, nothing too tricky but aesthetically nice. Hole 7 is tight difficult tee shot to a dog leg left, one of the hardest tee shots at this course. There isn't much to offer if you try to take a back door line and cut off the dog leg. Hole 8 is a sexy dead straight slightly uphill shot through a narrow fairway protected by trees on both sides with a basket protected by low branches. Hole 9 is a unique hole that is somewhat open but you need to stay low under some low trees about halfway up the fairway. Hole 10 is the second of the 3 long holes and plays alongside the parking lot. If you reach 300+, this hole is very birdieable. Hole 11 is an 'S' curve fairway uphill. Disc up and power down an anhyzers that fights back out and fades. Behind the basket slopes off steeply to a pond, so be careful. Hole 12 is another uphill and right turning hole with some trees that could prove difficult for a direct shot toward the basket. Hole 13 is a tight tee shot through an initial tunnel that opens up slightly downhill and turns hard left. The safe play is an RHBH hyper placement shot of about 200 feet into the open area to setup a long birdie run or a safe shot in to guarantee par. There is room up high on this hole, which otherwise seems very tight if you are itching for the basket from the tee, but you risk losing plastic. Hole 14 isn't one of the 3 long holes I've mentioned, but it is the only other par 4 besides those. This starts off through an initial tunnel which opens up into a diagonally traversing ravine containing a number of trees that can knock you down. The basket sits 40 feet back at the top of the hill bordering the ravine. If you make it through the tunnel and keep it straight even with only 250 feet, you got a good safe birdie run. Hole 15 is nifty. It is very short playing from hilltop to hilltop across a small valley. A putter or favorite mid range disc for hyzer lines will suffice to try to land you up near the basket, but watch you don't come short and roll down. If you do, you can still save par. Hole 16 is a narrow right turning hole with a VERY protected basket on a narrow tall mound with steep sides. You almost have to drop it on the little room given to setup a tap in par. Otherwise, be very confident in your putting or expect bogey or double if you miss the putt. Hole 17 is unique. It plays out of the woods into a 'field' with some trees and bushes that form a grove to protect the basket. Keep the initial tee shot right with a fade in toward the grove and you're fine. SPOT YOUR LANDING, tall grass/weeds/flowers. Hole 18 is the monster. The yellow tee is on the path right next to where the woods end at the lake, which requires a little walk from 17 basket. You have a somewhat narrow lane from the tee--tall grass and trees to the left and the lake to the right, so don't turn it over! If you can get about 300 feet net straight, you have nothing in your way to toss the remaining 200 feet slightly uphill toward the basket. Be very careful on your 2nd (or 3rd) shot. The sea of tall grass and flowers that sits in the 200 feet leading to the basket is very thick and very difficult to find a disc in now. There's the play by play. A tough but fair par 58. I'm an intermediate/advanced player and I played very well my 2nd loop through the course and shot a 55. Rain had me at 60 my first run through.

Pros:

Well laid out, has a steady mix of challenging holes. Really enjoy the feeling of the park, the scenery can be quite enjoyable.

Cons:

Most tee stands need updating. hole 6 can apparently hold some water in the center making it difficult to play if it does fill up

Other Thoughts:

I haven't played a bunch of different courses over my short time playing. I find this course to be one of my favorites. That may be because I've played this one more than most because of the location to my home. I've started to learn the ins and outs of this course. Your first time here may be a little confusing, but at the same time, you may enjoy some challenges.

Pros:

This is a technical tight course that utilizes many different elements forcing accuracy on some holes and distance on others.

Cons:

Dirt pad tee boxes.
The over water shots can lead to lost discs
One short hole has an extremely tight tube to shoot through.

Other Thoughts:

Some shorts over large water and many risk reward options.

Pros:

Good variety of shots needed- after two 18s i think i had used all the discs in my bag and i was playing well.

Mounds- i enjoyed the use of sand mounds for elevated baskets on some of the wooded holes. I thought that they did a very nice job using what land and elevation was given to them.

Starting to put in arrows and directional signs- i could imagine this course being really rough and hard to navigate without the arrows i made being put in:)
Hole 1 alternate tee- if you want to you can play across the water on 1 and it adds like 200 of water shot.

Flypads- they have started to put in flypads for some various pro tees.

Water close enough- i often found myself thinking: could i get a bad rollaway and plunge into the water?

Steps- on some holes locals have put in steps which helps with footing getting up as well as erosion

Cons:

This course does not live up to its full potential- locals have started to clean up the course and improve it, and i believe it os possible to make this into an awesome course if the had better amenities such as teepads, benches and tee signs.

Saftey issues- some holes on the front nine play really close together. Mounds in between holes help a little bit, bit make it harder to see a disc oming at you

Other Thoughts:

Hopefully in the near future i will make my way back down to vineland and see this course grow and get better

Pros:

- Another course in South Jersey
- Some really tricky through the woods holes (#3 from the pro tee!)
- I really liked the trees near the basket on hole 9. Makes for an interesting putt if you overshoot the basket.
- Decent baskets
- 18 holes
- Tournament course for SJDG
- Good parking and restrooms are available

Cons:

- Course needs to be maintained a bit more. Tee boxes were good on some holes and pretty bad on others. It looks like they are starting to redo some of the pro tees, but not all of them have been done or finished.
- Signage is ok at best for getting to the next hole and for hole info.
- There is a great deal of water here, but it never really gets put to good use.
- A good deal of trash throughout the course needs to be picked up.
- A wider variety of shots would be nice. A few of the holes feel repetitive.
- Some more benches would be nice

Other Thoughts:

All in all it is a nice course, but I would only play it again if I was in the area and not make a special trip for it.

little tough to find 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 17, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

there was good mix of open to tightly wooded tunnels. nice park they have for being in an urban environment. other notables it didnt smell like a worked out armpit.

Cons:

poor map, does not show the multiple tee pads. not really to any scale. when i played there was red arrows everywhere, little miss leading, which we decided later in the round were from a bike race or something. some of the baskets didnt have numbers. none of the gold tee boxes had numbers and the one that did was miss labled 8 it was 7. 17 and 18 not mowed. so there was no fairway what so ever.

Other Thoughts:

i feel like this course could use some really cheap upgrade fixes and it could be much better. mark the all the tee boxes with the hole number, distance and perhaps some indication of the intended flight path. tag the none marked baskets i think 14 is one. a whooping $15 between spray paint and some path markers could make this course the 3.5 its claimed to be. when i went there was no street address listed. i updated it and it should get you there via a gps

-Wish that water was used more in the course design
-First tee isn't very close to the parking lot
-Some long walks between holes

Other Thoughts:

Sure is great alternative to sketch Landis Park. Would love to play tournaments here. The locals are taking great care of this course.

Safety Last 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Nov 15, 2011 Played the course:once

Pros:

This DGC is set in a large multi-use park close to fuel and food amenities. A few holes offer some cool shots and most require line-shaping to varying extents. Water comes into play on a few holes but only with a VERY errant shot. Further, the course has alternate tees, many of which change the hole entirely.

Cons:

All teepads are natural. Some are sand and some are dirt but none are properly maintained and have become rutted. Even a few framed gold tees which seem fairly new. Baskets vary from new to old n' busted but being discatchers they aren't too bad. There are significant safety issues here: baskets next to baskets, baskets next to teepads, parralel fairways no more than 30' away from another, fairways crossing roads, and steep drop-offs just off the front of the tee(15.) navigation is an issue even though the locals are trying to remedy that problem we got turned around several times and more often struggled to find the gold tees.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't a bad course. With some time, money, and park cooperation my rating would jump atleast 1 disc but in it's current state I can't recommend it to anyone I'm on friendly terms with. Be sure to brush leaves and other debris from teepads or risk any errant shot or injury. I neglected to do so on 15 and fell off the front of the tee landing knee first on a root. Lastly, this course is not "moderately" wooded. In comparison, it's atleast as tight as Lums Pond in Delaware. There are some true poke-n-hope holes out there. Don't make a special trip here; drive an hour to play in Delaware or PA. If you're in the area stop by, play some golf, and try to have some fun.
