Pros:

Gorgeous setting - in the bowl at the bottom of the resort's main lift and runs. Many rolling hills, lakeside setting, very beautiful.

With the lack of woods used, they have put many baskets in great positions, perched on the top of steep hills, on the sides of hills that can make you putt a little carefully to prevent harsh rollaways, and two signature holes (5 and 6). 5 shoots up to a basket sitting atop a 25 foot rock wall. And number 6 tees off the same cliff area.

Grass is almost always cut short and uniform.

Nice DGA Mach 5 baskets - navy blue and in good shape.

Good place to learn distance shots and throw multiple discs per hole.

Cons:

Very wide open - I don't mind but others may wish for more wooded shots, which are non existent here. Just some large trees here and there.

Tees - they are grass and always cut nicely, but some of the whites and blues are in horrible positions, such as 3. The reds are on flat ground, while white and blue are on a steep slope, so I end up throwing from the reds because I can't take a run up without risking tumbling down the hill.

Pay to play - it's $3 for nine; $4 for eighteen. It's not horrible, but with Highbridge only a half hour away with all day play for $10, it's kind of annoying.

Other Thoughts:

Nice open course that can challenge beginners and experts, lots of nice terrain, good layout for what land they used. Good to have another course relatively close to Ironwood when you don't want to drive out to Highbridge.

A Short Course Done Right 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 16, 2010 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautifully manicured grounds. This course is located in the snow bowl at the base of the mountain. The grass is rich and lush, and shots usually stay where they are placed.

The winds whip through this course strongly, and often in unpredictable directions.

The three tees often give measurably different looks at the basket (especially the blue vs the white) in addition to distance changes.

Intact accurate, signage. The signs are placed at the middle (white) tee, and have representations of red and blue tees on them so you can easily determine their positions.

You basically play around the bowl, and the elevation is used effectively to increase difficulty whether uphill or downhill.

Cons:

Since this is near the Lodge, there is a fair amount of non-DG traffic. Hole 4 basket is next to a parking lot and uncontrolled drives can get you into a heated discussion.

This course is very open and does not force players away from hyzers to more controlled shots. The wind is what forces shots here.

This property is wildly under-utilized for disc golf, with much wooded, hilly acreage around to accommodate many more holes going completely unused. However, what they chose to use was used wisely.

Pay to play.

Other Thoughts:

When I first saw this course, all I could think of was "Oh God, this looks like Shanty Creek DGC" which is a stinker course in Bellaire, MI that I unfortunately played twice. The signage and design were very similar and I girded myself for another waste of an hour.

I was pleasantly surprised. While Shanty Creek has only one hole over 300', this course has four 400'+ holes and only 2 under 300'. I found a lot of variety in what is largely a course comprised of field shots. It helps that they didn't place a volleyball court in the middle of 3 holes (like Shanty Creek) and employed sensible par values.

The blue tees are almost twice as long as the red tees. I very much like how you can play all 3 tees (blue, white, and red) for 27 holes that start off with a nice set of longer holes, followed by a set of mid-length, and ending with a 9 hole ace run. That is definitely worth $2.

Being so close to Highbridge, I imagine that this course is largely overlooked, but I plan to play it again when I return along with Indianhead Mountain . . . if it ever reopens.

This was definitely the best of the three 9 hole courses we played this day coming home. Whitecap is incredibly picturesque and quite a fun little warm-up for Highbridge.

could use more length 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 5, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

elavation is great

2 very neat holes, 1 with the basket up on top of some rocks, and the other teeing off those rocks

3 different tee spots make the course challenging for all levels

beautiful course right on the hill next to a lake and the lodge

Cons:

grass tees-bad if wet

lengths given on some signs was definitely off

pay to play for only 9 holes...worth it to play once and nothing more

Other Thoughts:

course is set up in only the lower bowl of the hill

even with the cramped space the course has good length on every hole...especially if u use the blue tees

a course that is worth it to play once but not a place your going to come back to again and again because of the price
