Nice practice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jan 16, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice course, with a couple of tricky holes thrown in.
Easy to follow, especially after downloading the map.

Cons:

Holes 3, 5 and 7 finish less than 2 metres from roads or carparks. I had to be really careful not to overthrow and risk hitting someone/something.
Also the static gym equipment does get in the way on hole 5.

Other Thoughts:

A good course to practice your short game, but don't get caught out by the long 8th hole!

Bird Festival 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2009 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

Contact [email protected] and you'll likely be met by several local players, who will show you the challenging alternate 18-hole version of this course, and also invite you to play a very impressive course they've created using portable baskets at nearby Ashton Court Estate.

Pretty campus grounds, playing next to the former-chapel-turned-museum, amongst large trees, flowering bushes, and daffodils in the spring, with the stone campus buildings in the background.

Lots of bird(ie) opportunities.

Cons:

The basic layout is fairly simple: 9-holes, flat, very short - longest holes about 250', shortest about 1/2 as long.

Baskets 3 and 9 near to parking lots. OB roads, walking paths, museum come into play, too.

If nice weather you'll likely be playing near/through students using the pitch,

Other Thoughts:

Armed with the course map and finding the small concrete rectangles in the ground near the baskets (i.e. the tee for the next hole), you'll have little trouble navigating this unsigned course.

The young lads I played with enjoyed having so many "birds" out and about, taking in the fine weather.

I rated the course rather low, compared to typical courses in the US, but with such few courses in the UK, and a friendly group of players in Bristol, certainly make the effort to contact them if in the area!
